They protected furniture when they were installed on 3/8" bolt threads. As a result, they expand just enough to cover the threads snugly and there is no risk of slipping As it turns out, the straps are about 5/8" long, so they will cover a significant amount of skin, but they can easily be trimmed shorter if necessary. They were perfect for what I needed.
For use as caps for partially used ink cartridges for fountain pens, I bought these. As soon as you finish using an ink cartridge there is still ink in it, these rubber caps cover the open end and prevent the ink from spilling out There is no ink waste. Due to the fact that there are different sizes of ink cartridge, I purchased both 6mm and 9mm cartridges The pouches of the caps are 7mm in size. *BASED ON THE INNER SIZES OF THE CAP AND THE EXTERNAL SIZES OF THE INK CARTRIDGES, THIS IS A BETTER WAY TO MEASURE AND USE THE SIZE.
If you plan to cover threads, order a smaller size than you think you will need. The order for six was placed. There was a gap of 5mm between the threads and 1/4 bolts, and they were a tight I originally used acorn nuts on the ends of the bolts, but because these stretch a good bit, they fit over them perfectly (emphasis on perfectly). This is helpful for preventing the threads from causing wear to my desk, and it looks nice, too.
As with these 8mm ones, I also ordered the 12mm size to cover 1/2 inch wooden dowels that hold my Native American flutes, and I am happy with that size too for the same reasons as I am with.
Fit for a 1/4 inch steel rod, these 6mm caps are perfect. In many of my wrought iron items I use round steel rods of 1/4 inches in diameter. It is possible for the cut ends to be a bit There is an end cap on each of the ends, which is very nice to look at. Their easy fitting nature means they won't fall off the rod, but they are tight enough so they won't come.
My crafy thinking, if you're interested in this is what they do. They fit the standard 3/16 tubes I am looking for, so now on to the project at hand. We produce hummingbird feeders and replacement feeder tubes at much lower prices than competitors.
My dock is securely held together with stainless steel bolts that fit perfectly and nobody can cut themselves if they accidentally come into contact with the ends of the 3/8".
In my experience, the 3/8 and 5/16 caps I bought from Home Depot fit very loosely and don't fit like the ones you can get at the store. The product I got was not what I paid for as I thought I was getting a deal.
