tested them with pressure treated boards and experienced a 30% failure rate when I screwed the Simpson structural screws into them. A break would occur at the end of the threaded section. When I used the 18v cordless drill on the screw setting, I noticed that the Simpson structural screw was not fully seated, leaving 5/16" of screw outside of the mounting I have used Simpson connectors in the past with no problems, but after all the failed screws and drilling new mounting holes to get around the sections of steel left in the board I would never use Simpson screws in the future.
Thankfully, with Amazon, I have other options for fasteners that are of higher quality and in which I do not have the problem of screws snapping off.
There are screws, but they are damaged. As if they were peas and carrots, these go well with Simpson hardware. Both nails and these are much better than nails in my opinion. The small hex head prevents screw head stripping on cheap screws that I so hate when framing. They don't snap off, they hold tight, and they don't snap off when they are removed. It may be worthwhile to mention that I prefer screwdrivers because I have a worn out elbow and nailing is a boring activity. Although I have a good framing nail gun, I only use screws for joist hangers and bracketry of the same type.
I will need to drill new holes and get to HD and find something more structurally sound, so overall I am disappointed.
I love how easy these are to put in. The design of a screw is a design I never knew I would love! And because of their structural nature (and the fact that they can take much more force than other screws), they make metal construction connectors a breeze to install! My thumbs are no longer bruised from missing a nail, and I'm not beaten into submission in tight places anymore!.
Stripping is not required and they do not require pre-stripping I have been using my impact driver for drilling because of the 1/4"hex drive. This makes the job go by much faster. Amazon is always one of the places I can turn to when I can't find these locally. Our rail fence was constructed with these screws and Simpson Strong Ties, which created a very sturdy.
Although I bought them specifically to go with Simpson straps, I feel ripped off having to spend so much money on them.
We would definitely buy from them again.
Our purchase was $10 or so and the price has fluctuated on Amazon over the years. For that price, these brackets seem to be the best option for mounting brackets. It is easy for them to grip into the wood.
