Questions & Answers

Is this a three-wire setup or a four-wire setup?

The words "hot," "common," and "ground" all come to mind when thinking Three wires are connected together. It can also be used as a through feed to protect other outlets that are connected in series.

Is there a way to avoid false tripping that the manufacturer can provide?

False tripping is impossible in a properly functioning GFCI. Tripping can happen as a result of flaws in connected equipment, no matter how minor they are. As previously stated, there is also faulty wiring.

Is it possible that this will take place outside?

Yes, they're designed for the outdoors and provide adequate protection from excessive moisture (heavy rains). I'd call them water resistant rather than water repellent. I have mine installed under a porch to protect it from heavy rains, but with the right cover plate, it should be fine in high-moisture areas as well. I hope this has been of assistance.

When you're self-contained, does the LED light flash or turn red? testing?

A solid green light is visible when the device is in normal use. br>The green light goes out in the trip mode when testing or if a fault occurs - There is no lightbr>A blinking red light indicates that the receptacle has failed. br>These light codes are described with a picture in the Amazon product description.

Is a score of 8 out of ten satisfactory for your outlets? One of the ten units was defective right out of the box, and another failed after installation
3/5

This should never happen on a UL approved AC current carrying device ! 80% chance it works? Is there a 80% chance that this outlet doesn t arc internally and burn down my house? There are consumer protection laws in the United States regarding this type of thing. Perhaps not in the country of origin, where these were manufactured, but UL approval meant something and carried some weight the last time I checked. This item should be removed from the market. br> And it's been taken down from Amazon. before a fire breaks out in someone's home.

Junk! These were less expensive than the others, so I bought two of them
3/5

I put one in and it immediately tripped. When I pressed the reset button, it tripped within 5 minutes. "OK, this has to be bad," I reasoned. I swapped it out for the other one I purchased. It stayed on for a while, but it tripped when I applied a load! I replaced the Amazon GFI with a high-quality GFI outlet purchased from Home Depot. Everything is in order. These are a waste of money, and you get what you pay for. Remove yourself from the situation.

There is no recessed ground screw; Old wall boxes aren't going to fit
3/5

The ground screw isn't recessed in any way. As a result, old outlet wall boxes cannot be used to install these. I wouldn't recommend buying these unless you're certain you have a newer wall box.

Five out of ten times, the students were unable to complete the task
3/5

I've had these gfci outlets for about a year and a half now. I bought them because the price was right. br>br>However, one of them was defective when it arrived. It's a pack of ten, so it's not a big deal. I only needed seven of them. Isn't it true that you can't uninstall and reinstall everything if one of them isn't working? br>Plus, I already had two extras. So let's jump ahead a month. One of the experiments was unsuccessful. Let's fast forward three months. Another two attempts were unsuccessful. br>br>And yes, we did hire a professional, and the original installation was flawless, with no electrical issues. br>br>Just over a month ago, another failed. br>br>In my opinion, 5 out of 10 failures is not a good value. br>br>I would not purchase this product again.

It really works
5/5

My house's GFIs were easily replaced from their old ivory color to white. br>One thing to note is that my kitchen outlets are 12-volt. The back wire slot is too small for the gauge wires. Because the back wire slot can only take 14 gauge wire, I used screw terminals to side wire. There's no need to be concerned.

It appears to function properly, but it isn't particularly light
4/5

This was purchased in order to update an old 2-year-old computer in a secure manner. There is no equipment ground on a three-prong outlet. I believe that the old house was wired 100 years ago by the forefathers of the rodents who now live in the walls, using whatever scraps they could find. br>br>The Faith outlet has power, the indicator light is on, so it appears to be working, and the self-cleaning mechanism is in place. The circuit interrupter is tripped by the test button, while the power is restored by the reset button. br>br>It wasn't too difficult to secure the wires to the side screw plates. br>br>It was a little difficult to reassemble it in the old box, but it just about fits. We don't care about looks, and the wall plate is stable for inserting or removing plugs. br>br>For the next few outlets, I'm trying another brand whose "slim" dimensions are about 1/3" slimmer than this one.

What is advertised is not what you will receive
3/5

First and foremost, this product performs admirably in its intended function. My issue with this product is that it is advertised as being slim, which it is not. Because I was looking for a slim style GFI, I decided to give this product a try. One is made by Leviton, but I couldn't find any in the color I needed locally. This unit is the same size as a regular Leviton GFI, according to the Leviton brand that says slim is slim. I needed the plug to complete a project, so I went ahead and installed it. As I previously stated, the GFI appears to be in good working order and performs as expected, so in terms of functionality, I'd give the product a five-star rating, but that's about it.

Is out of place in an older home - Not as thin as the description suggests
3/5

In our bathroom, we have an old GFCI outlet. A simple swap should be possible. The ground screw on this unit protrudes and hits the electrical box, whereas the ground wire area is deeper and the screw is flush on the old GFCI unit. There's no way to know until you wire it up and try to fit it in. So I said that at the very least, I'll be able to use it in the basement to replace a regular outlet. It will fit in that box, but it will not work; it will remain in the test position and will not reset. I've never had a problem with any electrical work I've done before, so it's probably the unit.
