I'm not sure why you'd want to do that.
You'll need 3 inches to make it work.
A single pole light switch is all there is to it. It must be connected to the AFCI's "load" side. When the first "outlet" of a branch circuit is a switch rather than a receptacle (plug), this device enables you to install AFCI protection.
Yes, everything downstream of the arc fault beaker is protected, including the switch, and yes, the ACFI requires a neutral to function, and you must carry the hot and neutral downstream to whatever fixtures or wiring you must protect.

One of the three items I ordered was old - The mounting screws for the electric box are missing, and the AFCI label is gummed. However, it functioned as if it were brand new. I discovered that these were more arc fault sensitive than the Leviton AFCI outlet configuration. My Brother color laser printer trips the switch version of the AFCI but works fine on various outlet versions of the AFCI. Using a surge protector in your home is a smart idea. Using a microwave oven as a guideline was ineffective.
The only trick is figuring out where the circuit begins in your room. I was overjoyed to discover this combination because my circuit began with a switch rather than an outlet.
They sent a 20A the first time I ordered, and the second time I ordered, thinking they made a mistake, they sent another 20A. A 20A GFCI is being used on a 14-amp circuit. There are two 15A lines that aren't working! br>br>Wiring is also a bit of a mystery. Both wires emerge from the same location and are unlabeled. br>br>Send me a damn 15A like you said you would.
It's simple to set up and use, and it does a fantastic job.
Because it was installed at the first branch of a lighting circuit with LEDs and CFLs, nuisance tripping was extremely inconvenient.
I enjoy them, but I am unable to photograph them, and I do not leave them at the location where they were installed.
