Prior to purchasing it, it is essential to know how deep the unit must be positioned under the subfloor in order for the entire unit to be submerged. Although my contractor complained a lot, he installed it successfully in the floor without any access from the sides. In the ideal world, it is easier to approach this situation from below. My realtor who helped sell the home where I had installed two of these boxes has confidently proclaimed that floor outlets were a code violation, despite no home inspector having noticed. I purchased two of these floor boxes to install in our new home. I thought they looked really nice, were really sturdy, and once you read their instructions fit to the floor really snugly. It is very important that you read the instructions carefully since you must recess the box *3/8" into the floor if you want these flush against the In that case, the back plate will stick up 3/8". You can't just cut the hole and then set the back box flush against the floor. My solution ended up being to cut off the tabs and cut just the hole for the box and then mount the plate slightly recessed over 3/8", probably about 7/16", and then use longer plate screws to secure it, so that is well As long as the tabs were removed, you didn't have to cut as much at each end of the box and you could attach it to the floor by screwing through the holes at each end and fastening it to the subfloor or floor. You should also pay close attention to the way you place the gasket that goes between the cover and the floor, as there is a tab to make it "keyed". I didn't notice that tab at first, so the plate stuck out and I knew what happened immediately. I think they are a really nice looking floor box, they are sturdy and seem like they will last for a long time. Just read the instructions carefully before you start assembling them.
Faceplate is made of fine thick metal and the receptacles are covered with beautiful covers. Depending on your floor, however, will determine how it is to be installed. In order to screw the box in, it needs to be at the right height. You likely have a subfloor that is a bit below the surface that you walk on, so if you screw the receptacle box into the subfloor, it will be too low and a gap will open up between the faceplate and the wall. This gap might not be visible to the eye, but it does not meet code because the wires won't be completely With a 0. 25 inch spike, I was able to install this on carpet. A 5" pad is needed between the carpet and the subfloor. To mount a couple of 0s, I mounted them on the wall. You could mount a box on a box on 5" square dowels so it is the same height as the carpet pad, then mount the box on the dowels. Since the outlet depth combined with the metal surface means there is no room for large plugs, it will not work with larger plugs. See what I mean by looking at the stock photos. 1) I agree with those who say Topgreener seems to treat the outlet as an afterthought. There may have to be some modifications made to the fixture cover fixtures because the outlet eyes do not align with them.
It looks good after installation and does what it is supposed to do. As for installation in the floor, it was quite simple. There may be some need to modify the floor in order to make the connection deep enough. As well, the actual unit with the sockets has little rings that obstruct the holes that hold the box to the floor, and they don't align with the holes which hold the box in place. But they were easy to cut off, and everything now remains in place thanks to The lids have sharp edges and do not have smooth rounded edges, so we gave it 4 stars. Due to the way they are not inserted completely flush with the base plate, one can feel these imperfections. In addition, the lock is a little difficult to open (some might consider this a positive safety feature) and you need a tool to turn the The handle cannot be easily turned by hand. Everything is very nice. It comes with everything you need. I purchased a brass plate with a deep box and waterproof gaskets, but the screws they included are so crappy that I threw them out and bought replacements from Lowe's. Then why would you have to use the cheapest fasteners for a great product?.
I give the product a 3 for now since it arrived and appears to be a good product, but is yet to be mounted to the floor, so I cannot provide much feedback at the moment.
Construction of excellent quality, but you will need to chisel around 1/8" deep to get it to fit more closely to the floor in order to get it pretty flat to the floor. It requires some skill with a super sharp chisel based on the type of floor you have.
