It is not a starter, but it is a magnetic switch.
For single phase, you can just use two poles as long as you don't go over the rated 18a.
It is pre-assembled. wired in the manner depicted in the image
Both the hot wire and the natural should be on separate contacts so that when the starter turns on, they both open. Don't mix up the natural with the earth! The hot wire, natural white, and ground green should all be black for single phase use.

I would buy this switch again because it is very cost effective and has performed admirably thus far. Check the capacity and only use half of it to ensure a long life without failure. That's what I propose.
