For my 2x82(yes 82), I connected it to a 2hp three-phase motor. Yes, this does need to be "programmed" for the motor you're using it with, but it's done entirely through internal jumpers. I much prefer that to the lcd screens found on most other VFDs, which force you to sort through a plethora of preprogrammed options. The only problem I had was that the speed fluctuated for a while before stopping. I assumed it was the wire gauge I was using, so I switched to 10awg. But that wasn't the problem; all I had to do was lower the "comp" potentiometer. After that, everything was fine.
This product was excellent; however, I would have given it five stars if they had included the two "optional" switches I ordered, one for forward and reverse and the other for power on and off. These were a must-have for my application, and I believe that most people would want them as well. I paid close to $50 for the factory switches, which is a lot for what you get, but they are prewired and include protective shields. They were incredibly simple to put together thanks to the instructions. Great product; only wish the optional switches could be included at a reasonable cost.
I bought this after returning another brand. One look at this unit says it all. It is by far the best in its class, simple to set up, easy to use, and does everything one needs to make a better knife. The people at KB will walk you through any issues you may have. The best customer service. I'll buy another of these units for the Speed Controler if I build another 2x72 belt Sander. Marc.
It also made a difference to me that I could expand the applications. VFD is very nice.
