As noted above, there are differences between the shank and the threaded portion

I needed to thread a deep hole in a pulley hub, but everything I had was the shank was longer than the threaded section. So I bought this tap, which was just what I needed,.

A drill bit is pictured as being included. A size F drill bit is required to thread a 5/16 hole, but did not come with it.
