Questions & Answers

Can anyone confirm whether these are made in the United States or China as of today's date (07/15/21)?

I'm afraid I won't be able to provide you with a direct response. The country of origin for my orders is listed as "China." The label on the inside of the lid, however, reads "Made in the USA." What I can tell you is that I bought mine in 2013 and it has served me admirably. I've used it on several engine rebuilds and found the quality to be comparable to store brand tools such as Craftsman, Kobalt, Stanley, and others. Singles, inline, and V are the three different types of singles.

What makes this kit different from the 972 kit?

There are more pieces and sizes in this version.

Is it possible to clean some threaded holes by spraying in bedliner?

This, I believe, would be sufficient to deal with it. This set works wonders when it comes to removing thread locker. I'd say that if you're using bedliner, you might want to back out the restorer after a few threads so that the bedliner debris doesn't accumulate too much.

Is it possible to clean the spark plug thread with this method?

Yes, as long as the sizes listed correspond to the spark plug threads you want to chase.

Chipped threads, bent threads, burrs, and machining flaws were found in both sets
3/5

The first set I bought had faulty threads, so I returned it. The replacement set is identical to the original. Chipped threads, bent threads, burrs, and poor machining were all present in both sets of threads. These were bought as new sets with factory plastic on them and factory oil on the threads, so I'm sure they haven't been used, so the fact that they are so inconsistent is disappointing. For thread cleaning, I'll have to use a traditional tap and die set.

This is an outstanding collection
5/5

It's possible that a tap is more important. Definitely worth it! This is an outstanding set. A set of taps was already in my possession. I never expected to need chasers when my car dies; Chasers, on the other hand, do not cut new threads, making it much easier to avoid cross-threading. When using these, keep the thread in mind.
- > Another great feature is that the outside is hex, allowing you to use standard SAE wrenches and sockets with them (yes, even for the metric chasers, which is a little silly). This is impossible to achieve with taps. dies, and it makes them a lot easier to use in tight spaces. (As does the difficulty of crossing the street) When you have a rusted nut, thread them)br>br> Bolts, etc. , are used to clean up threads and make it easier to remove or reinstall a bolt once it has become loose. br>br>I recommend this set because it is reasonably priced and has the widest range of sizes of any set of these I found on Amazon. br>br>I would strongly advise anyone to purchase these!.

These Lang thread restorers/chasers are among the best you'll find for the money, and Lang is known for producing some of the best thread chasers available
5/5

There are no missing parts, and everything appears to be in good working order. A few metric taps have slightly uneven machining on the shafts. It wasn't enough for me to be concerned that the tool was tainted in any way; it was enough for me to notice and hope that the manufacturer would take notice and try to improve quality, as all manufacturers should when a problem is raised. br>br>Knowing what these are for is critical. These aren't for cutting new threads; rather, they're for restoring rusted, dirty, or slightly damaged threads. You'll need to use a threaded insert or drill and tap the hole to a larger size if your threads are completely ruined. br>br>You can use a wrench or a socket on these, but be gentle. If at all possible, I would use a small 1/4 drive ratchet to avoid applying too much torque. You don't want to break any of these because it will aggravate your situation. br>br>There isn't a lot of information about the warranty on the website. Keep in mind that because these are consumable items, they may need to be replaced after a certain amount of time and use. However, I am confident that the seller would replace them if there was an obvious defect within the tool's lifetime, based on the reputation of this brand and the testimony of other customers. I'm content in general. br>br> I'll let you know if I run into any problems in the future.

The rebadged snap on is identical to the original
5/5

I bought this for work. I'm a master technician and have a gear wrench tap and dye set that I use to cut and chase threads both. Unfortunately, my gear wrench set is missing some pretty basic sizes, so I was constantly borrowing my coworker's snap on thread chaser set. His snap on set is identical to this kit, so I ordered it. When it arrived, we sat the two side by side and they were identical in every way, including the layout of the case and the markings on the I've used this kit a few times now and it chases threads as it should. I've had no problems with it and would definitely recommend it over the rebadged snap on kit because of the price difference for essentially the same kit.

It's a very nice set, and it's a very nice set
5/5

Well-made and well-considered. The bits for cleaning threaded holes appear to work a little better than the "nuts" for cleaning bolts, but they're both well-made and functional. I was taken aback by how well the "taps" cleaned. I used them to clean some holes in a transmission bell housing, and they did an excellent job. Clean away with a little gas sprayed into the hole. However, it does take some time. The taps must be cleaned between uses, which necessitates the use of a stick and/or brush, among other things; however, if you're okay with that, this is a nice setup. I believe it is a little slower than using a thread cutting tap to chase the holes, but you don't have to worry about cutting away any thread material. Overall, it's a useful kit to have on hand for cleaning threaded holes, especially in materials like aluminum.

It's a nice Tool Kit that's simple to use
5/5

This Thread Restorer Kit was purchased solely for the purpose of cleaning the threads on my 4 Runner front hub with a single size thread chaser. I was doing a full brake job on it, and when I removed the old rotor, I discovered one of the six bolts holding the rotor to the hub was missing. I bought a new bolt and discovered why the old one was missing: the threads on the new bolt were damaged, and I couldn't get it to screw in properly. So, instead of paying my local mechanic to repair the threads, I decided to buy this kit and do it myself. It worked perfectly; just take your time and use some sort of cutting oil or lubricant. This one repair seems to have paid for the kit, and I now have a reasonably complete repair kit. It's of good quality and comes in a nice package. This is something I would strongly recommend to anyone who needs to clean up some non-stripped threads.
