The shank is 3/8" in diameter.
It was designed specifically for cutting steel. It has been used to cut mild steel ( aluminized). As a result, it'll be able to cut through aluminum. Both brass and wood have been used in the creation of this piece. (Keep in mind that cutting steel, even mild steel, necessitates the use of a coolant.) slowing down

It was a 1/2 inch outside cutter that was 1/4 deep and had a 3/8 shank, so it wobbled in a 1/2 inch router hole. I'll return it, get all of the dimensions, and place a new order.

It's possible that it's not completely accurate. The tool was delivered to me. I'm not sure how fair it is to give a review at this point because I haven't used it, but it doesn't appear to be well made. The flutes are not evenly ground and have the word "CHINA" stamped on them.
