Selected User Reviews For New MT1 Medium Duty Live Center Morse Taper 1MT Triple Bearing Lathe Medium Duty CNC
The MT2 live center is the subject of this review. This live center is an excellent value. It's what I use to turn my pens. I used a Mitutoyo dial indicator with a sensitivity of 0. br>br>I used a Mitutoyo dial indicator with a sensitivity of 0. The runout at the tip was measured at a scale of 0001" per increment, and the runout was only 1/4 to 1/3 of the 0. The increment is "0001" in this case. The runout that was measured was around 0. 3/100,000 of an inch equals 00003". That's a tenfold improvement over the advertised concentricity of 0. 0003". br>br>Despite what the Amazon product description claims, it is NOT carbide-tipped. No signs of brazing can be found. This is visible in the tip's magnified images. It's got a single-speed transmission. Cone made of steel with a Rockwell C hardness of 61 to 65. br>br>Because this live center is so well made and inexpensive, I purchased two more as backups in case the bearings on my first one fail. Both of these extra ones have a measured runout that is extremely low. For such a low-cost item, the level of ultra-high precision is nothing short of amazing. Even though I don't require anything near this level of ultra-high precision for penturning, it's nice to know it's made with such care. br>br>Although purchasing Chinese machine accessories is still a hit-or-miss proposition, this live center is unquestionably a success. It wasn't hyperbole to say that made in China machine accessories were almost all junk fifteen to twenty years ago. That is no longer the case. Many Chinese manufacturers have undoubtedly improved their manufacturing standards and quality, and their prices are simply impossible to match for comparable quality products from Western or Japanese manufacturers.
Normally, the Chinese crap I get is complete garbage, but at $25 for the MT3 version, I figured I'd give it a shot. My old American-made one has served me well on the large lathe, but it is too large for my import. On the import lathe, I almost always expect to turn a taper, and without tail support, it's usually a 10-minute job. 15 (. 010- 015) thousandths of a millimeter of taper, but with this live center, I was able to get it down to 8 tenths of a millimeter (. 0008), which can be easily explained by the lack of rigidity in import lathes due to the ways not being leveled. I put the tenths indicator in the middle and got one and a half tenths of a tenth of a tenth of a tenth of a tenth of a tenth of a tenth of a ten 00015), which is half of the advertised run out and more than adequate for any job you'll ever need to complete on a small import lathe. Overall, this center pleasantly surprised and pleased me.
On a mini lathe, this is a good build for the money. I've added some pictures. Was more substantial than anticipated.
It's extremely well-made and of excellent quality. They're commonly found in a school store. I'm always on the lookout for a live center where parts don't come off because if they do, the students will figure out how to get rid of them. (I'm impressed so far -) If it stays that way, I'll place another order. When I get a chance, I'll write another review.
It was spotless when I opened it up to clean out the expected grit. Using a thou indicator, I was unable to detect run out. This live center has made me extremely happy. It has a lubrication screw on the body, but no oil was present. br>There was a blob of grease on the rotating part of the spindle. br>But it still gets 5 stars. Oil is in my possession.
This lab center was purchased to replace an older one that had become worn out. This center is beautifully finished, silky smooth, and free of play. This is something I would buy without hesitation.
For my mini lathe, this was exactly what I needed.
This is a monster. It's enormous. There isn't any extra time.
