Hello Eric, the live center you're looking at has the ability to change tips. We have a 2 MT interchangeable set that might work for you, 3900-3900-3900-3900-3900-3900-3900-3900-3900-3900-3900-3900-3 5052 There aren't any with a 1 morse taper, however.
I recently bought a HHIP 3900- 5002 MT2. Surely, the "5001" is built in the same manner. It's an all-in-one live center. piece-by-piece construction It is not possible to separate the arbor from the rest of the structure.

The MT1 Live center would not spin, and I couldn't loosen it with the torque I had. It was eventually loosen with Kroil (penetrating oil), but I could feel loose material in the bearings and the bearings didn't feel right. I returned it to Amazon because I suspected it hadn't been lubed at the factory. Also, unlike the pictures, the body was plain steel with no rings. It was, however, in a box with the proper part number. Due to the ambiguous date format, the "certificate of quality" was either dated 2011 or 2018.
I couldn't ask for a higher quality product for the price, which is consistent with most other HHIP items. The bearings are nice and run great under load, the front can be removed for service, and most importantly, the accuracy is something I'd expect to see in a product that costs easily twice as much. Overall, this was a great purchase that will most likely stay with my lathe for a long time.
At first, the bearings were a bit sloppy. They needed to be broken in on the lathe for a while. After that, I went over everything again. They're ready to go now that they've been oiled. Before you begin a major project, do this.
For the price and the fact that it is from China, this is a decent live center. Keep a light coat of oil on it because it will rust quickly (due to the poor quality tool steel).
My Southbend 9 is up to the task.
For more than ten years, I've been turning. This is a fantastic piece of work. Precision machining, no wobble, and next-day delivery are all features of this product.
When turning wooden pens, it has a very smooth operation.
