7075 aluminum, Grade 40 cast iron, and 17-gauge steel have all been machined by me. With these, I've used stainless steel four times and am very happy with the results. Despite the fact that the stainless steel I work with is a difficult material to machine, these inserts produced a nice surface finish on all of the materials I've used them on. They're mounted on a Shars R8 surface mill, which is 3 inches in diameter. Most mild steels machine similarly to the hard 7075 aluminum I frequently use, so I'm confident you'll like these. When I machine the 7075 aluminum with a 2500 rpm cutter speed and a light cut, the part has a mirror finish, which I find impressive. Many of the other inserts I've used have left galled rough finishes in a similar state. The better the performance of these, the more rigid your milling machine is.

Because the inserts aren't all the same size, the cut is uneven. They're similar, but if you look closely at the corners, you'll notice that the shapes are slightly different.
okay.
