Replaced an old light with a new one that consumes more than three times the wattage of the old one and appears to be much brighter. HOWEVER! Even with wires cut as short as possible, we couldn't get the wiring junction to fit into the light housing. It would have been a simple installation if we had simply pushed the wires into the metal mounting arm, but this does not appear to be a safe practice. My initial thought was that it should be contained in a housing or junction box, rather than being exposed in the arm without any waterproofing or seal. Because there is no seal or weatherstripping, the metal mounting arm does not qualify as a j box or similar device. So, even if we bought the mounting arm that came with the light, we'd run into the same issue. The wires could be tucked back into the light housing with our previous light. br>The chances of water getting into the wiring are probably slim, but with a $40 light, some time, and a couple of bad storms, it's possible. What are the chances? But it's not something I'm willing to take a chance on. I like the light, so I'm going to try to keep it, but I'll have to do some rigging and modifications. Even if I need to buy a few more parts, the price is hard to beat.
The old light was suspended from a swivel arm. I took out the old light and replaced it with this one, which fit perfectly on the arm and required only the connection of three wires. It's extremely simple to set up. The room is light and airy. In addition, unlike the old mercury lights, the photosensor does not need to face north.
I hung this light above the garage door by drilling a hole through the stucco and driving three lag screws (included) through the plywood (use an open-ended screwdriver). (If necessary, use an end wrench). The three wires were then connected to the electric junction box, and the job was completed. The light uses only 70 watts and produces 9800 lumens, as stated. This light comes highly recommended from me.
To begin with, this item is poorly designed. It will not cover an electrical box where it attaches to the building. It needs to be attached to the building and mounted to something that will cover the box. Other lights I've bought included a mounting plate that concealed the electrical box. Second- It failed as soon as it was installed. I'm not sure why, but it starts flashing on and off every 15 seconds less than a minute after turning on. I disassembled it and double-checked all of the connections, but the problem persisted. It was a complete waste of both time and money.
My son came and installed the unit I ordered and received earlier than expected, which replaced a smaller unit that had seen better days and was dying of old age. We were fortunate in that the old unit's bolts and holes aligned with the new unit's holes, and the installation took only 15 minutes. With this new unit, there is a lot more light. I would purchase this item again.
I enjoy working on lawnmowers and other mechanical devices late at night, and this $49 70 watt LED daylight yard light is perfect for that. 00 COSTS HALF AS MUCH AS MY HALGEN 200 WATT YARD LIGHT AND COSTS FOUR TIMES AS MUCH TO RUN. I'm going to switch out my halogen light for an LED.
To eliminate dark areas on the farm, I have three of them installed. They are extremely bright and illuminate a large space. If you are familiar with electrical wiring, it is simple to install.
