Please read the following instructions for manufacturers. In the last year or so, I've purchased four lights from this company. I recently decided to purchase two more and came across these with swivel (or tilt / adjustable) heads. This is fantastic, but the bolt holding the head in place is an extremely large allen key style. "Don't worry, you have all the tools you need," my wife said. Regrettably, there isn't anything available in this size. It's a real pain. Ironically, the heads of the screws that secure the light bracket to the wall fit into the bolt for the tilt function and can be tightened slightly but not completely; however, once installed, those screws will be in the wall. It would be fantastic if this tool was included in the price. Alternatively, you could use a more widely used fitting. Spanners, a small screwdriver, a few different sizes of allen keys, and other tools are required for this installation. Don't get me wrong, the lights are fantastic, and I will purchase them again, but I wish the tool for tightening the tilt head had been included.
It's roughly three times brighter than the 175W mercury vapor bulb it replaced. Installing is a lot easier. The bracket that holds the extension pole is the only downside in terms of construction. It's cheap, and it doesn't do a good job of clamping the pole. To keep the wind from blowing it around, I added two more lag bolts straight through the bracket and pole. The connection between the pole halves is also sloppy, to the point where I had to gorilla tape it because it wasn't a good tight fit. Only time will tell if they'll be around for a long time. I like that the light sensor is replaceable because if it fails, I can replace it rather than replacing the entire light. So far, everything has gone well.
Today I got it and put it in. The directions, as usual, are terrible. The wires fall short about two inches into the pipe if you use the extended arm, so I had to disconnect the romex and use wire connectors to connect to factory wires in the barn. After that, feed it through the pipe and secure it in place. The romex is then threaded through the barn and into a connector box. It took three times as long to install as anticipated. But. As sunset approached, the light turned on, and it is far brighter than any other yard light we've had before. I'm very pleased; I don't usually rely on directions.
It uses a photo cell that turns on when it gets dark, rather than motion detection. We've noticed that there are no longer any "bugs" near the light at night. All kinds of insects were drawn to the old photo cell light it replaced. That is not the case here. It's a fantastic light, and I strongly suggest it.
A sodium light has been on top of my barn for the past 15 years. When my sodium light failed, I decided to upgrade to LED to save money on my electricity bill. I only wanted to do it once because it's about 20 feet off the ground. Old men don't mix well with ladders. I was relieved to discover that it performed as expected. I was taken aback by the light it emits, which is crystal clear and bright like daylight. Our old sodium gave off a blue haze, which I was used to. I believe that the old sodium produced a larger area of light, but it was not as clear. If you have security cameras, this light will come in handy. I'll take a photo of my store from a distance of 90 feet. The barn is 40' wide with a 14' sidewall for scale. At the highest point, it's around 20'. Overall, I believe I made the right decision.
The light is fantastic once it's been installed. brighter than I had anticipated It's a well-made unit that should last for a long time. Only two things could have been improved upon. 1. br>br> It's only slightly more difficult to wire up because the wiring is stranded rather than solid core. Furthermore, the wiring should be long enough to pull all the way through the mounting pole, but it isn't, so you'll have to feed your electrical wire up through it, connect, and then pull the excess back through. The easiest way to do this was to use crimp connectors - Wire nuts couldn't pull it back through because it was too big. 2. br>br>1. br>br>br>br>br>br Without some shimming, the mounting pole and bracket do not prevent the light from moving side to side. If the bracket was different and had more than two points of contact with the mounting surface, this might be a better option. br>br>However, I would definitely buy it again.
It lit up the entire front of his house and front yard, and it was very easy to install. I would highly recommend these to anyone who needs outdoor lighting. I'm going to order a new set to replace the ones I have now.
Even though it's mounted about 16 feet off the ground, the light is very bright and illuminates most of the backyard (which is quite large). I was able to stop paying the power company $9 per month for their outdoor light, which I had been paying for a long time, and this one is much brighter!.
