Questions & Answers

What does the central dial do and how do you adjust it? And how do you change the settings for each port individually? In order to increase flow, which way do you turn?

There isn't a dial in the center. What you're looking at is a detachable/replaceable screen that can be cleaned of debris. Each port has a screw that can be turned clockwise or counterclockwise to adjust flow rate and close or open the port. I've got quite a few of them, and they're fantastic.

Has anyone had any problems with water pressure because the 1/4 inch tubing you're running from the manifold extends several feet?

I have no problems with water pressure when I run 20 of these 36" heads. However, they will quickly become airlocked, and you will need to turn the filter top slightly in the center to release the water. Please note that if you screw these heads onto a standard threaded PVC nipple, they will split because the nipples are tapered and these heads are not.

I'm in need of the manifold's caps. Is it possible to buy them on Amazon?

What you're getting at is that I'm not sure what you're talking about. If the small black caps on the green tubing connectors are the problem. You won't be able to purchase them, I'm afraid. When I put a tube on, I keep them. You don't need them; simply turn off the valve at the top to prevent leaks.

Is it possible to flood hydroponic nft channels with this product? This is what I'd use to connect the micro tubes that go into each of the nft beds?

That's what I think. There are eight ports in total, each of which can be adjusted. For several years, I've relied solely on these. Try one. They're made well. I cracked a bunch of tapered threads by overtightening the primary 1/2" thread. It's best to use a non-tapered stand pipe that will sit on a rubber washer screen.

Individual port adjustments are made easier with eight port heads
5/5

The adjustment screws appear to be easily broken or otherwise difficult to use, according to a common complaint. That issue has been resolved! The fitting fits perfectly with a 3/32" Allen wrench. There was never a time when a screwdriver was required. Screwdriver blades easily fall out, and because the plastic is black, it's difficult to see where the blade should go. I purchased a 3/32" T-shirt. For $1, you can get an Allen wrench handle. Simply type 3/32 Allen wrench T- in the search box. handle. Because it's 12 inches long, making adjustments is a breeze. This method is a major league convenience for me because I have a dozen of these eight port heads. My drip irrigation system is now completely above ground in my backyard. Repairs will no longer require digging and kneeling. Orbit products are one of my favorites. There are now photos. The first image depicts the Eklind product code 51906 3/32 long handle Allen wrench. For $1, you can get it at Amazon. A 3/16" pear-shaped carbide grinding stone from Dremel is shown in the second photo. A two-pack for $4 is also available on Amazon. 84922 is the product code in numbers. I'm having a lot of trouble getting 1/4" tubing over the 8 port manifold's little green elbows. I use this item to slightly ream out the inside of the tubing, which makes the connection much easier while still keeping it secure.

These are good quality for the money, especially if you need a large quantity
3/5

Screw-on caps are included to cover any ports that aren't in use. They can also be affixed to the majority of 1/2" risers. The adjustment screws are made of cheap plastic, and if you aren't careful or use something too hard (like a screwdriver that is the wrong size), you can easily strip them. To adjust them, I recommend finding a piece of plastic that fits the slot.

Materials have been reduced in quality, and I've been using these manifolds long enough to notice that Orbit has reduced the thickness of the plastic wall
3/5

This is most likely due to the company's decision to relocate its manufacturing facilities to Mexico, where they likely trashed their old machinery and molds and replaced them with newer, less expensive versions of all of their products. There's no reason to choose them over any other manufacturer for parts; instead of paying more for a brand name that no longer means anything, I'll buy in bulk from other foreign manufacturers.

Adjusters that are easily broken

1/4" pipe softened for 1 minute with a lighter Push onto the nipples for 2 seconds. I managed to buckle a couple of them without doing so. br>br>I didn't fit any drippers at the other end of the 1/4 lines- The adjusters were all that was needed. br>EXTREMELY useful as plants mature and their supply increases. br>br>Adjusters are easily slipped on with a flat bladed screwdriver. Some users suggested a small square headed bit, but I'm not sure what the "hole" in the center of the adjuster is for. br>Perhaps I'll take an old flat-iron and grind it down. To keep the blade from slipping, use a bladed screwdriver with a projection in the middle. I can see how over-exertion and slippage could lead to problems. Torquing the thing would eventually break it down. br>br>I also had trouble finding adapters to go from 1/2" irrigation push-in to 3/4" irrigation push-in. or screw- This thing fits into the 1/2" NPSbr>female socket underneath it. br>If all else fails-- FOR MY VEGETABLES, THIS IS PERFECT. a garden with a lot of plants in close proximity,br>and a garden with a lot of plants in close proximity,br> Excellent value for money. These are surprisingly affordable for the amount of features they include, and I really like them
5/5

Pro: br> super easy to installbr> comes with 8 ports with caps on them for the ones you don't usebr> each of the 8 ports has its own flow adjustment screwbr> this unit with 8 ports was less expensive than units with fewer portsbr> flexibility in use, you can use just 1 or all 8 without any noticeable pressure dropsbr> if there are any, you can adjust them to compensate for any pressure needsbr> "Rain Bird RCKIT-" is required as well. 1PS Connection Riser Kit, Universal" is a similar unit that costs around $17 to $20 more than this one. br>- Because it's made of plastic, it's easily broken, so use caution when installing drip lines and turning the adjustment screws. br>br>We installed these in place of random spray heads and ran drip lines to each plant, and it works perfectly. Watering can be adjusted to each plant's needs without watering the sidewalk, the house, or the cat next door. Water distribution that is perfect. br>br>Now if I could just remember which screw went to which plant, it would be a lot easier when I see a line that is giving out too much water and I have to adjust each one until I find the right one, but that's on me and my terrible working memory. This would not be a problem if I simply jotted down notes or used labels. br>br>Finally, a great product with more flexibility in use than similar products, ideal for fine-tuning your irrigation system and saving money in the long run by not wasting water on areas that don't require it. Too much water in the wrong places can encourage the growth of weeds. br>br>In our yard with random spray heads, anywhere that wasn't plants or grass that got overspray grew a ton of weeds, while the areas that didn't get overspray grew no weeds at all. That's when I realized I'd made the right decision, and I'll be switching all of my other garden spray heads to this drip system. br>br>I didn't feel the need to include a photo because the product is exactly as it appears on Amazon's page.

Not perfect, but it's a good way to convert a sprinkler riser to drip without having to lay and connect drip supply tubing
4/5

The small plastic flow adjuster sscrews atop the manifold are the only thing that bothers me. The screwdriver slot is poorly formed, and the material is brittle, breaking easily when attempting to adjust the flow. When attempting to fit a screwdriver into the slot, one of them broke. I anticipate having to purchase spare manifolds in order to harvest the adjusters for repairs to manifolds that have already been installed. As a result, five stars for the concept and three stars for the materials' quality. Four stars on average.
