These work great if you're trying to connect a 1/4" irrigation tube to the side of a 1/2" irrigation tube. I tried some similar connectors that came in 1/4" irrigation tube accessory packs, and these are far easier to insert into the 1/2" tube. The amount of leakage appears to be negligible. There haven't been any major leaks or pressure drops that I've noticed so far. Because of the point on these connectors, it's important to avoid blowing out the back of the 1/2" tube. I haven't had that issue yet, but it has left a mark on the back of my neck on a few occasions.
It was disappointing. The material these are made of is brittle, and I relied on the Orbit brand name for quality that I didn't receive. During the installation, a few of them broke. Now I'm having to replace couplers every few months that are failing and causing leaks, despite the fact that they were only installed four months ago. It was only on for a single season. I will not be purchasing Orbit couplers in the future. Keep a safe distance away.
For years, I've used these and other types of connectors in my garden. Although these are reusable, they do wear out over time, but they still outlast the tubes they connect, making them invaluable.
I have a number of broken nipple connections in my collection of air stones. By drilling a hole in the broken ones, inserting these, and hot gluing them in place, I was able to successfully replace them. br>br>The barb is a little too large for a standard air hose, but it can be forced.
When installing these, make sure you have a puncture tool on hand. I tried to fix a few punctures with a razor blade, but they all leaked. That section of tubing had to be replaced.
Poor quality, difficult to attach to a dropper hose.
We tested these connectors with Dripworks 1/2 inch tubing and found that they dripped. We could have ordered from Dripworks if we had waited, so it's most likely our fault. As a stopgap, these could be argued to be acceptable short-term alternatives.
These were required in order to use the emitters I purchased.
