Is it compatible with the Dremel EZ Lock?

It does not have a curved post, but it is very easy to load into a dremel tool.

Is this safe to use on steel heating grates that have been painted?

I wouldn't use this for that job because it is prone to clogging with paint. This wheel is made to smooth out burrs and remove them. If your grates are small and you need to remove paint, the stainless-steel brush will suffice. If your grates are stainless steel underneath, a steel brush wheel is preferable. If they're just mild steel, the plain steel brush will suffice. The reason for this is that a plain steel brush can leave tiny grains on stainless steel that allow it to rust. The stainless steel brush, on the other hand, has the potential to gouge mild steel. If your grates are more than a few inches in diameter, you'll most likely need multiple brushes and a lot of time.

These aren't your typical "stone-age" items. like" Aluminum Oxide wheels I've previously purchased - These are much softer, perhaps more like AlO2 grains embedded in a softer substance. I'm not sure if this is meant to take the place of grinding stones.
