We've included some pictures below to confirm that original Miele filters are now being shipped, and that your filter will turn black if you vacuum a lot. Since I am not an expert Being a smoker in North Carolina who is constantly exposed to smoke, I use my Miele Classic C1 Olympus vacuum several times a week because I can't stand the smell of cigarette smoke even within my home. Upon seeing that my first Miele filter turned pitch black after one month, I thought the smoke that seeps into my home from my neighbors would ruin it shortly! Here is an explanation from a kind and knowledgeable Miele dealer local to you - "The black material on your filter is caused - in large part - by the carbon brushes found in your motor. These are normal parts of your motor that are used to move air. In a month, is it normal to have such a dark sky? There is no way to check the length of the motor brush on the Miele motors (due to the design). Therefore, there is nothing to worry about at this time. Your motor does come with a 7 year warranty, so if the motor should wear out prematurely, it would likely happen before the 7 year mark. I think it's reasonable to assume that if some smoke entered the vacuum cleaner intake, it would smell in the filter and the bag, to answer your question. It would be like they would be drenched in that foul smoke scent. It is just as important to me to keep the house really clean that I vacuum once a week, just as often. To see extra Miele filters on Amazon provided me with an opportunity to "feed my habit" before the bags were finished and to switch out the filter before the box was empty. As thick and puffy as my original filter, these filters were just as thick and puffy as the ones I received. It is the plastic rectangular piece that presses down the filter that has a quilted pattern, which gives the illusion of the filter being quilted. Due to my mistake, the rim of the used filter has a glossy appearance because it was cut too small. I scotch taped the rim back on after cutting too small. Whenever you insert a new filter, make sure to test it as it is first. If it proves too small, then you can trim it.

To keep my Miele filter and bags in good shape, I only use Miele bags. These filters are well worth the extra cost. You spent good money on the vacuum. Don't shortchange yourself on filters or bags.
