It has the potential to be used to store large quantities of food. Granular materials such as sugar, rice, coffee, nuts, cereal, and so on would be better stored (and poured) in this container; however, I don't think it's the best container for flour.

I bought two and am using one for bird seed, but I may return one because it is too small to hold a 17-pound bag of cat food. It's something I'm thinking about using as cat litter. This is the best dispenser I've found; I wish it came in a larger size, but I'll keep it for a long time. Thank you very much.
This is what we use for cat food, and it works great. It's much more convenient than storing and working with bags.
I needed something for birdseed, and this was exactly what I needed. Very strong.
For storing and pouring dog food, this container is ideal.
