Based on the volume of a masu, this device delivers a precise cup of rice. This isn't a cup from the United States of America. The masu is about 3/4 of a US Cup in volume. Rice is measured using the volume of a masu in all automatic rice cookers. br>br>Once this has been resolved, the product runs smoothly. At first, it's a little staticky; With continued use, this will fade away.
This rice dispenser has exceeded my expectations. It was a perfect fit for my counter top. It's small and takes up little room. Others have complained that one cup isn't really a cup, but I had no such issues. It holds the same amount of rice as my rice cooker's standard rice cup. It's a lot better than having to reach into the 20-pound bag. This is a product that I would recommend.
On rare occasions, if I press the button twice in the exact same way- I'll eat 1 cup of rice, which is unusual for me. It's usually a quarter cup less or more. It might not be as big of a deal if you're not a perfectionist when it comes to rice cooking. However, I am picky, and when a product claims to deliver a cup of rice at the touch of a button, I expect it to come close to that. br>br>This only gives out about 1/2-cup. 3/4 cup at a time (rather than the 1 cup stated CLEARLY on the unit) and you must measure the rice before cooking because it does not dispense consistent or accurate amounts. I can usually get around 1/2 cup each time with enough practice, but you can't rely on this dispenser for precise measurements. When you press the button, it also spills rice at random. Because mine was on a wire rack, it fell to the floor. This isn't a good thing if you have dogs like I do. Although it is sturdy, it isn't bug proof, and there aren't any gaskets or seals, so I'm not sure how fresh the rice stays. We had a pantry moth problem due to some bad flour (not from this product), and after meticulous cleaning/eradication, it turned out they were all hiding in the rice dispenser (which was not in the pantry). Although this product does not claim to be bug-free, I was concerned about this when I was considering buying it. At first, I didn't think I'd mind the obvious ugliness of the design, which is more akin to a 1990s desktop computer than a modern kitchen accessory. But I'm having a hard time with it. It looks completely out of place in my kitchen and clashes with everything else. It turned out to be like the old man's eye from Poe's Tell-Tale Heart. I couldn't seem to get over it, Tale Heart. I used to keep it on a wire rack underneath my rice cooker, but I had to move it to the pantry so it wouldn't stick out like a sore thumb. The worst part is that my wife thought I was insane for buying it, and I had to admit she was correct. Purchase a large, gasket-sealed dry good storage container and a 1-cup aluminum utility scoop as a favor to yourself. It's less expensive, bug-proof, and airtight, and it takes fewer steps.
Rather than buying a larger tub, I decided to buy this for a smaller scale storage. br>br>I had no problems with the packaging. However, the protection provided by the box was insufficient. As a result, when I opened the box, the product was likely damaged. The darker plastic screen had a crack in the upper right corner, and the screen itself had been improperly assembled. I got it and went back to Amazon to request a replacement in less than 5 minutes.
- br>NOTE: THIS PAGE HAS BEEN UPDATED. br>br>After I submitted my original review, I received the replacement rice dispenser the next day. There were no knicks or dents in this one because it was packed properly. There was no evidence of any damage. I filled it with jasmine rice and placed it in the corner of my counter next to the refrigerator, where it would be less noticeable.
I received the Aroma rice dispenser today and followed the cleaning instructions before pouring a large bag of Basmati rice; however, I do not believe the measurement is accurate, even for the standard rice cup. It's about half the size of a regular cup, which is disappointing. I'll give it another week or two to see if it works, but I'm pretty sure I'll have to return this costly piece of plastic.
We have a lot of fun with this rice dispenser. It simplifies and speeds up the rice-cooking process. br>br>Because we make rice almost every day, having this on our counter comes in handy. It's a practical way to store rice. br>br>It's nice to be able to see how much rice is left inside the dispenser through the window. It also has a straightforward design that works well in our kitchen. br>br> br>br>Ours appears to be identical to the picture on Amazon. Everything is the same color. br>br>I'm not sure if it always measures out the exact amount of rice that we want it to, but it's been accurate enough for our needs so far. br>br>Before I bought it, I was concerned about some of the reviews claiming there was a gap in the back that allowed rice to leak out. We're grateful we don't have that issue with ours; perhaps there was a problem with shipping because ours was not packed in a good shipping box, but rather in the original dispenser box by itself. br>br>In our minds, it performs admirably for the price we paid. It's something we'd recommend to anyone who cooks rice on a regular basis.
