I installed four of these without the use of a drill. Simply press hard into the stud and twist a few times to get it started; if you want to drill a pilot, choose a bit smaller than the hook by sight/feel.
This would be dependent on a variety of factors. These hooks should work as long as you have something on the board that can attach to the hooks, such as the dimensions, shape, texture, or hanging brackets.
One of these will be home to a Surly Krampus with 3" tires. It works, but I have to set the bike at a slight angle to get it to work. Anything wider than that would almost certainly necessitate some ingenuity.

These bike hooks are extremely small. I assumed these were the standard heavy duty bike hooks you see at Home Depot, etc. , based on the name StoutMax and the Heavy Duty in the description, but they're tiny in comparison - and when compared to all of the other bike hooks I've seen over the years. They are only 6 inches long from the tip of the threaded end to the end of the hook. The hook's inside width and height are both two inches. 3 inches x 3 inches inches. If you have a mountain bike with fat tires, these hooks may not fit. A true heavy-duty bike hook, such as those found at Home Depot and other retailers, measures 8 inches in length. I wish this product's title said "Mini" bike hooks or something along those lines because I'll have to find another use for them. The other reviews are absolutely correct. These are small, flimsy hooks that could be used to hang a light coat or other small item. They're small, to begin with. My road bike couldn't even fit on them because they were so small. A road bike, with road tires, to be precise. Second, they're a bunch of knuckleheads. I could see it bowing, flexing, and threatening to snap the moment I strapped my superlight Specialized to it. After a minute of imagining it collapsing in the middle of the night and destroying who-knows-what, I hemmed and hawed and took it down. knows- What is going on in my garage? br>br>It's just that the hooks aren't very good. The information provided in the description is completely inaccurate. They aren't "Stout," "Max," "Heavy," or "Bike," for example. On the plus side, they're "hooks," and they came in an 8-pack?.
I purchased these to supplement my current setup with a few hooks. They appear to be identical to every other bike hook on the market, based on the product photos. Unfortunately, the photos aren't reliable because these things are ridiculously small in comparison to standard bike hooks. It's almost as if the designer had never seen a bicycle before! br>br>You wouldn't be able to hang a mountain bike or even a road bike with deep section wheels on these. They'd most likely fit on a road bike with shallow rims ( I'm disappointed that I squandered my money on these.
It's simple to set up! I used the hooks to hang the bikes up in the garage so that I could park my car there.
Edited to remove the star rating and add the following information: The vinyl at the end of the hook tore after only a week, and the hook's end was sharp enough to leave a jagged scrape on my black alloy rim after only 10 times taking a bike in and out. Other reviews claim it's too small at 5 inches when compared to the 7-inch model sold on Amazon. If you're only going to use it to hold one item, this will suffice; however, if you're going to use it to hold multiple items, a larger hook is strongly recommended. The installation went smoothly, and there's no doubt it'll stay put. Plus, for the same price as the 7-inch hooks, you get a lot more hooks.
It's a great way to keep your bikes out of the way in the garage. It's simple to put together and has a lot of weight to it.
No problem supporting the weight of a couple of dreadful Walmart special overly heavy bikes that we bring out when we have visitors, family, or town. They were lifted off the floor, making room beneath them for the lawnmower and other garage trash. With more storage, the space almost feels empty. br>br>The other six were used to hang tools and a ladder. They have a lot of meat on their bones.
