Inside the walls, I hung my strips from the studs. Using a stud finder, I discovered that they were 16" on center. However, the kit includes drywall mounting sleeves, which allow you to be less constrained by the location of the studs and thus have more flexibility. I believe that 43" is the maximum distance at which the strips should be mounted to ensure that the shelves are adequately supported and do not sag in the middle when heavy objects are placed in between the horizontal supports. I just measured the width of my mounting plate for you, and it's 1 11/16" wide, so it should be fine.
According to the manufacturer, each shelf should hold 150 pounds. I haven't put that rating to the test, but based on the rack's quality, I believe each shelf could support 150 pounds.

The hardware is unquestionably powerful. The brackets and tracks are made of die-stamping, folded steel that is about 2mm thick. The wire shelves are made of rolled steel that is about 5mm thick and is induction welded. Grade 8 fasteners have been used. 8 zinc-plated hex head wood screws (DIN 571), 18 or 20 mm long. br>br>However, there is a serious problem with quality control. The locking tab does not work with the wall-mounted lock. Because of a misalignment, the track was mounted. If a shelf is bumped from below with enough force, it will unhinge and collapse without this engagement. This was not an issue for me, though. Because the thumb screw on the locking tab is protruding, I had to remove it in order to level my wood surface. In order to prevent upward movement, I plan to install angle brackets between the surface and the track. In addition, due to a minor fitment issue, a few of my brackets wanted to walk side to side. I fixed it up with two 1" x 1/2" angle brackets and some 10-foot rope. An acorn cap and nut keep the 24 threads in place. The angle brackets keep the shelf from slipping out of the cutouts in the support bracket, while the tension between them keeps the shelf from moving horizontally. Those interested can see how I combined two kits with three 1' x 8' x 3/4" pine boards, secured with 1/4" line clamps and fastened with 1/2" lath screws.
These shelves are ideal for storing items in the garage. br>br>Installation went exactly as planned. The shelves came with all of the necessary hardware and an installation template (as well as the cutest little level I've ever seen). br>br>We spaced our brackets 32" apart to hit studs, but heavy-duty anchors were included in the package in case you couldn't. br>br>We also bought hooks that attach to the shelf and can be used to hang items- I highly recommend picking up a set of these to make your shelves even more functional and to keep items off the garage floor. br>br>We set up an outdoor power tool station with the charger on the shelves. I swear, this isn't a Ryobi ad. br>br>These shelves are a huge improvement over our previous wire shelf. They're fantastic.
My only criticism is that the shelves do not have any supports to prevent them from sliding from side to side. The screws prevent the shelves from sliding forward and off the supports, but they can slide several inches side-to-side, so you must be careful how you load them, as with most of these types of shelving units. If you remove all the weight from one side of a shelf and install it as instructed, it can become unbalanced. The shelf topples over and spills its contents. It's not a major problem; all you have to do is pay attention and load directly over the support, or screw some blocks or brackets above the shelf to keep it from lifting.
Only the wall brackets and shelves were sent to me. I dashed to the hardware store for lag screws in the hopes of at least getting the brackets up, and then emailed the seller about the missing hardware and shelf brackets. They responded the next day, saying they'd ship it the next day and I'd have it in three days. 4 days (it was a Monday or Tuesday at the time). They didn't ship it until the third day, and I received it the following Tuesday. This was extremely inconvenient because I ended up with garbage all over my garage floor and was unable to park in it. The unit itself appears to be quite sturdy. br>br> It includes an easy-to-follow template, but you'll have to use your own level because the manufacturer didn't include a small level with the template.

I just finished putting these shelves in my garage the other day. I found the entire process to be fairly simple, with clear instructions and a very nice-looking finished product. Drilling holes, ratcheting the rails onto the wall with the included bolts, and attaching the supports and shelves were all part of the process. Overall, there were no snags in the process. I'm going to order a second set to go with the ones I already have!.
The wall holes are drilled in the correct locations thanks to a paper layout. The layout hole spacing at your location may differ from what was marked in the paper at the factory due to humidity. The horizontal spacing between the three shelf supports is not a problem, but the wall hole spacing within one metal shelf support must be precise; use the support itself to determine the vertical hole spacing.
