Okay, I drilled some extra holes to get this thing to wake up a little bit and it has practically jumped out of its slumber. A few small holes were present on the front and back of the factory burn pot in addition to the ones on the bottom. There are now three extra holes on the front and back, and six on each side. It has made a big difference in the overall efficiency. There is a greater degree of burning and it has a more thorough burn. It has now been 1 full season since I purchased it. The motor and auger of the hopper were destroyed by a piece of cane stuck in the hopper last season. Since the Air Pressure switch has gone bad, it has been working for just one week. Despite being down so much, I have burned less than a pallet of pellets in this stove as I have been unable to get a replacement part until I pay $190. It is the only stove I have had down since it was bought. I regularly find unburied pellets accumulating in the grinder and the whole house starts to smoke. I do not recommend Vogelzang products! Furthermore, the service is bad as well. The product is not reliable, and I am constantly concerned about the possibility of my pipes freezing up.

You must clean this pellet stove AT LEAST ONCE A DAY to prevent the burn pot from filling with burned pellets, as the holes in the burnpot do not allow the ash to fall through completely. It worked for about 2 weeks before it started throwing error codes constantly. The pellets fall out of the burnpot and mix with the ash, so that when you clean it out you are also throwing away a pound of unused pellets mixed in with the ash after a month it would not run for more than 12 hours without throwing errors. Nothing has kept it from erroring out regardless of how clean I have made the burn box, the exhaust, the clean air intake, etc. When we saw huge smoke plumes coming up from the first floor for the first time 45 days after purchasing, I was sitting upstairs. Upon returning downstairs, there was fire shooting through the exhaust fan and out of the stack outside, and the error code was blinking in the center. There is no doubt that if I had been asleep, it would have caught fire and likely led to the burn down of our house. As fire was going through the unit, I could not even touch it to turn it off. My father pulled the plug and grabbed a fire extinguisher and leather gloves to open the burn door (which went black after a couple hours of running) and had to put out the fire. I have called the customer service number for a few questions and they have always been helpful (got a real person within a few minutes). You can overheat your pellet stove by using quality pellets at higher temperatures. In this case, the device turns off automatically (which is a very valuable safety feature).
