The installation process is definitely worth the time and effort. There seems to be a slight confusion between this product and something else based on the reviews here. The RVS-R is being reviewed by me It is a remote igniter 304B. Having bought two of these now, I am pleased with the quality- The product is good value for the price, and it works well after more than a year. There are a few things you need to know before installing it If the supplied fitting isn't exactly what you need, be patient, read the instructions carefully, and be prepared to make a trip to Home Depot to find the right ones. If you consider purchasing this product, I highly encourage you to purchase an installation kit, such as the SureFire SVFIK Universal Vent Free Installation Kit, since you will almost certainly need a bendable gas line to connect to the gas unit. There will need to be a minimum of 7 inches of space within your firebox to the side of your existing gas log set (burner), in order for the valve and the piping to be able to operate. As a final note, make sure you place the valve (and battery box) as far away from the burner as possible- Unless they are properly ventilated (and will be), they could overheat and shut down.
With the remote control added to our gas fire logs, it has all worked exactly as I hoped it would. Using it is as simple as lighting a pilot flame and letting it burn until it turns on. If you know what you're doing with gas line, the installation shouldn't be too difficult. However, the parts are a bit awkward and the box along with the thermocouple and cables take up quite a bit In spite of the fact that our fireplace is much larger than our log set, all the plumbing for it means it's a little off center to fit through our fireplace. There will be extra parts needed for the installation, such as screws and gas line parts. Since it's been installed, it works as it says without any issues.
The heat valve I thought of as a replacement for the valve with variable flame size. As a result, the flame height is fixed and the On or Off switches are only available. In spite of this, the installation was relatively straightforward and the flame height was acceptable. I did not use the vermiculite for the burner pan, which is supposedly for propane and I chose not to use it. There is no sand provided for the burner pan, but rather vermiculite.
In my case, I used the kit to install a set of ember glow 24" It was relatively easy to install, but the instructions are not very clear. With some minor adjustments to the pilot light adjustment and thermocouple positioning, the kit is now working perfect. It comes with a remote control that lets you turn it on or off. I can't think of a better value than this for the simplicity and price.
Added two RVS 304B fireplace safety pilots to my cart. Trying to light the pilot has been the most difficult thing I've ever done. New parts were sent to me a year ago, but that did not fix the problem.
