This unit either was delivered with a standing pilot, which does not require a battery back up, or it was a 24v electronic unit with a pilot more like that of a gas furnace. 3v will not do, a 110v to 24v transformer must be attached.
This model is not required for the ND3630 since it is a standing pilot model. Yes, if your unit was an ND3630i (intermittent pilot), this is the tray you need to use.
A standing pilot is the model in question. Therefore, there would have been no need for a backup battery. The Intellifire electronic pilot system is the only one compatible with this part.
You should be able to use it if you currently use a battery backup powered by "D" cells.

I was able to start the fireplace with the battery pack, but was interested in information about performance, such as how long batteries will last following an ignition?.
