Questions & Answers

On a Jotul door, what gasket to use for the 5/16" gasket Should the armored ropes version or the rope versions be used?

In my case, I used the standard rope version of 5/16 inch. I love how it works.

I have an old door gasket that's 7/8 in diameter. Instead of the 1 inch gasket, is there any smaller gasket I can use?

I have tried to answer the question as late as I could, but others might find it helpful. You should replace 7/8 inch with 7/8 inch if it says I incorrectly believed the extra snug fit was beneficial, so I tried a 1 inch when I couldn't find a 7/8 inch. I got it to fit snugly, but was shocked to discover the 1 inch had a much larger circumference than the 1/8 inch difference would suggest. It smelled like burning wood in my whole house. When I looked at this thing, I thought there could be no way that it could leak, and I wondered if it might be I had to replace the 1, out of desperation, with a special order 7/8 and low and behold, the problem had been cured! It's fixed now!

What type of pellet stove will this fit? I have a Englander Model 55 - Shp 22. ?

To find out what the gasket dimensions are, you'll have to do a little research. Either your owner's manual or the manufacturer's website might be able to help you.

If this rope is used between a rock fireplace glass door frame and the metal frame of the rock fireplace, how flat or compressed will the rope get? Where can I get a part to close the gap or seal the airflow?

The following is not certain whether or not it will help you. Using this on our Timberline stove is a good idea. In a matter of a few days, it flattened out. There is no doubt that it is tightly locked. Unless the door is latches, I don't think this will flatten out. That was my attempt at a translation.

The first day I was able to use it (like new again), but after one day I had already had to tighten my handle for it to seal properly. I had to flatten it again after two weeks and after two weeks it was basically the same as my four year old door gasket, so it leaked just as badly. *Since the cement they provide dries very hard, removing the old sealer from the door was very easy. Comparatively to the silicone based sealer previously applied to the door, the cement was easy to remove. Another gasket (different brand, but still made in the USA) I picked up from a local hardware store feels more robust than the midwest gasket. Where the midwest gasket felt an airy marshmallow when pressed, the new one is more like a thick loaf The number of stray fiberglass strands was reduced as well. Additionally, we were able to remove the adhesive from the tube of this new brand without too much difficulty. My stove broke down and I returned it, so I'm not sure why this brand works for some people and not others, but I wouldn't buy it again.

In my experience, I have removed and replaced gaskets on woodstoves regularly for over 40 years, and the tube included in this kit was factory sealed, but was so hard to push out the tip even after I cut it back three times and kneaded it well
3/5

As our main source of heat, the stove needed to be burned as soon as possible. I had already removed the old gasket and cleaned the channel. An unnecessary mess was created during the gasket installation that will need to be redone within a short time. Repulsed the remainder of the adhesive and sent it back for a refund, and will use a different manufacturer's adhesive from this point.

The job lasted a month

I was disappointed. I am using this product to treat my Lopi wood A stove for burning wood. According to the instructions, I followed them precisely. It was pretty straight forward to install, but you should definitely watch a couple of YouTube videos before you start. It fitted perfectly and was very easy to use. As I am reviewing it after using it for a couple of months now, I have found that after about a month of use it has shrunk so much that it no longer acts as a seal since it is so much smaller than it was when it was initially purchased. It occurred after only a few minutes of use. A very disappointing experience.

Baby burn, baby burn
5/5

As I've experienced minor adhesion issues when replacing the gasket on my wood burning fireplace, I've tried doing it a few more times. After following the instructions step by step and then some, I came to a conclusion. A scraper was used to remove the old gasket and most of the old adhesive. After that, I used a cordless drill and a wire wheel to clean up the mess. There were some areas that required more scraping and sanding to ensure the gasket channel was found to be bare, clean By pressing the gasket rope firmly inside the channel I adhered it with the adhesive that was provided. I secured the rope with painters tape as an extra measure, and I let it dry for over an hour before removing it. I did not see any lifting or loss of adhesion when I gently removed the painters tape. Putting the doors on and slowly raising the fire to 500 degrees, I then built the right size fire. seems to be in good order and I am expecting many years of reliable operation.

It is easy to install and a good product if done correctly
5/5

The rope is of excellent quality and the adhesive is very good. You do need a second person to help you if you do not plan to remove the door since the rope is heavy It is impossible for me to remove my door, so I had help holding it in place in the channels as I moved it. I have no problems working with the rope. Having put it in, I was able to feel the adhesive starting to set. I closed the door tightly and let it set for 12 hours. Finished product is great and I can now run my stove and clean my glass better. We are much better than we were Even if I needed to do it again, I might be able to get enough from the package to do it again.

As expected, it performs as expected

It was easy to install, and the seal on the stove door is good and tight. took the time to prepare everything before I installed the door, including stripping the old adhesive off the door, kneading the adhesive, cutting the gasket to length, and checking to make sure it wasn't.

I am very pleased with the product
5/5

How easily this was to apply, and how well it adhered almost immediately, made me very pleased. Make sure you remove the old gasket, clean the stove door surface as instructed, and knead the tube to make sure it works when you plug in the stove. After cutting the tube tip in a similar manner to what it suggests on the tube itself, it worked great after that. The stove will be purchased again so that I can have another one That is really good news!.

It's not always better to be bigger
5/5

It was 5/8 inch rope that I originally bought, but I ended up buying 3/4 inch rope. It was a lesson I had to learn. If you are not sure what size to get, perhaps the next smaller size will work. It probably took me about five minutes to knead the silicone and apply it. Squeezing it out is a little difficult, but that's to be expected from a squeeze bottle. you're a girly man, hire a manly neighbor to do it for you, hire a professional, or pay $40 for a tube of high temperature silicone that you can use for a caulk gun, only to buy another one for $39 for nothing. Keeping the instructions in mind, I trimmed the material There is not much room once the door is closed. With time, the slab will flatten out more, which is why it should be replaced every few years. Do not believe all the negative reviews on here, most of them are probably just dumb college graduates? I have never done one of these installations before, and it took me only 10 minutes. If you are going to remove old silicone, be sure to use a paint removing wheel drill attachment.
