Questions & Answers

Is this the item, and how long will it take?

The money spent on this grate was well spent. In north Texas, it's lasted two winters and we keep a fire going all the time. Also, it hasn't warped. And it's the perfect size for our stove.

Where did this come from?

China

Is it possible to use this in a fireplace that runs on natural gas?

I can't think of a reason why not. For the past three years, I've used it in a wood stove to reach temperatures of 750 degrees. I hope this has been of assistance.

It seems to work fine
3/5

This grate fits my wood burning stove and aids in the maintenance of an efficient fire; however, keep in mind that it is only good for one season. I've just ordered grate 4 for the same number of years, and I'll keep doing so. The heat is simply too much for it. In modern production, I have yet to see a grate that can do this. During the winter, it helps reduce a typical $300 monthly electric bill to $70. It is well worth the money; however, keep in mind that you are not purchasing a product that will last a lifetime. br>UPDATE JAN 2021. I recently placed an order for five years in a row. It's a one-season or one-and-a-half-season item.

Make a financial saving! This insert was the perfect size for my large wood stove
3/5

When I first saw it, I was ecstatic. It was substantial in weight and appeared to be of high quality. But that was the end of happiness. After just one use, the middle had completely bowed in. First, I used soap and water to clean it. After rinsing and drying it, I applied a thick coat of vegetable oil to it, rubbing it in thoroughly, and then seasoned it for over an hour in a 400 degree oven. I figured it would be worth it to pay a few extra dollars. I'll need to heat it up, bend it back into shape, and then weld some small supports in the middle. Obviously, they did not test these in real-world scenarios. incredibly dissatisfied.

REPLACEMENT FOR A BIS 2 FIREPLACE AT THE LOWEST COST - MEASUREMENTS CAN BE FOUND ON THE US STOVE WEBSITE
5/5

Replacement grates for the BIS 2 (by security chimney) are no longer available on their website, despite the fact that I have replaced mine twice in the last 23 years. The cost of purchasing from a warehouse has increased to $150. Invest in one! Then take your hacksaw and start cutting. Remove the first bar from both ends. On the back side, make an even cut with the second bar, as well as the center support. By making the final cut to remove the end bars from the side, just behind the front cross bar, you can leave the front full width (creating tabs on the front that stick out to the left and right). This grate will fit snugly into the ash pan of your BIS with just a little final grinding or filing of these two tabs. Two of them were purchased; one for the present and another for the future- When this grate "burns out," it will be 8 years from now. "Be aware that many websites' measurements for the G42 are simply incorrect; I called customer service at US Stove and spoke with a lovely lady with a lovely Tennessee accent who very kindly confirmed the true dimensions of this grate. If you're trying to use it for something like mine, this is a must. Best of luck with your project. br>Updated 9/13/2017 I bought two of these grates and cut them to fit my BIS stove. Because of wear and tear, I had to retire the first one. I'VE HEARD OF PEOPLE COMPLAINTING ABOUT IRON GRATES "SAGGING," "WARPING," AND "DEFORMING"! Any manufacturer of grates, stoves, or barrel stove kits, I believe, will issue a warning! that burning with the draft too open will cause the grates to deform and the stove itself to be damaged.

I bought two of these, one of which is broken
3/5

I bought two of these and have two double barrel stoves. We had some fires in the garage stove where the grate was glowing hot, but one of them had broken. We just put a piece of square tubing under the middle to hold the two halves up because the other rarely gets that hot. It works fine as long as you don't overheat them. 😂.

Purchase is not recommended
3/5

On the 17th of October, 2019, I received a message from you. On the 20th of October, 2019, we completed the installation. Around 11/1/19, I started using the wood stove. Take a look at the image from 1/6/20. This picture, I believe, says it all. This cast iron grate has collapsed in the back and is beginning to collapse in the middle after approximately 9 weeks of use. Its legs aren't worth the minimal effort it takes to attach them. Simply put, do not purchase.

I'm using it between andirons in a small fireplace because it's well-made and a good size
5/5

This is a good size and appears to be well constructed. However, I believe it will fail during the coming season and will need to be replaced every year or so. With normal-sized fires, it isn't heavy-duty enough to last much longer. 2- Every week, four times.

shoddy workmanship - After only one use, the item became warped
3/5

The grate was warped (center sag) by nearly an inch after just one hot fire. It's also prone to clogging and does a poor job of allowing ash to fall through. The issue is that the grate's top is completely flat, as opposed to other square-cut grates. on the edge of the bar For one fire, it helped with air flow, but after that, it was largely useless.

Two years in a row, the wrong grate has been installed
3/5

We ordered the 10x20x2 G42 grate for the second year in a row. 5, and we got a 5 inch wide grate, just like last year. As a result, we'll use them both in our Vogelzang logwood stove, which has the model number Vogelzang D329. 030/D327. 540 We'll probably have to find a grate that fits locally since the grates only last about a year. It's unfortunate that you ordered something twice in a short period of time and both times it was incorrect!!.
