I believe the cause is chlorine. It has a similar odor to that of pool chlorine.
When the tiny crystals inside dissolve (about 30 days), switch it out. br>Only 1 at a time is used.
I'd only put them in a fish tank if it didn't contain any live fish. They're primarily intended for use with humidifiers, and there are no claims that they're safe for sensitive fish.

I honestly don't believe these had any effect. I have two cool mist humidifiers and placed one of these in each of them. We didn't need to use the humidifier for a while, so the water sat stagnant for a week or two. The scale buildup in the humidifiers did not appear to be decreasing, and the water became very smelly and needed to be changed over time. It is preferable to simply use the additives available here or at another big box store.
These don't appear to do anything to keep your tank clean or filter the water, but they are cute! I wouldn't buy them again, but my son enjoys them, so I'm glad I have them. They appear to be well-made and sturdy, but I don't believe they do anything. But it's cute as a decoration!.
There are no instructions, warnings, or ingredients included with them. I'm aware that humidifier fish should be replaced every 30 days based on my previous experience. I've been treating them the same way I've been treating the others. I don't have any scum or odor, but bacteria is invisible, and I'm not sure if I'm using these correctly or if they even have the ingredients they claim to have.
I didn't know what to expect, but the inside of the water tank appears to be cleaner than when I used the humidifier without them before. I use the humidifier while sleeping at night, and I clean it once or twice a week. When I clean the humidifier, it never gets too dirty, so these appear to work. Because there are no instructions, I make an educated guess, but I use two fish in a 5 liter water tank.
Anyone who uses a cool mist humidifier should have these on hand. It inhibits the growth of bacteria and mold, as well as reducing the amount of time spent cleaning the humidifier's water tray with white vinegar. Make sure your humidifier's opening is large enough to accommodate these small fish.
It's difficult for me to keep up with daily humidifier cleaning, so I'm glad I discovered these!.
These slipped right into the humidifier without a hitch. I haven't had one in the tank long enough to know whether it helps keep the water clean or not, but if it doesn't, I'll let you know. br>Shipping was lightning fast, and the item arrived exactly when I expected it.
Pellets are inert and do not dissolve in water. And, depending on the vendor, the instructions are contradictory. Either 30 or 90 days were left in. I haven't noticed any difference, and the pellets haven't disintegrated.
