I'm Phil, and welcome to the blog. Having replaced another Vornado that is no longer in production, I bought this 723dc to replace the older model. According to my estimation, the older model was about as quiet as you can get. Even at the absolute lowest setting, there is a noticeable (albeit slight) change in noise. I had hoped the 723dc would compare well. Rather than the high pitch tone of the older unit, it is more like a "white noise" hum. The noise level is still much lower than any other fan on the market to my knowledge - I can't say that about any other fan. It also includes designs that are "blade less.". The 633DC shows a fairly smooth noise profile with most white noise being generated by airflow. This fan is 2 feet away from my feet and I can comfortably sleep with it set to 20%. There is a soothing and calming effect when there is a white wind. It may not seem that much louder than the 633DC, but large spikes in the spectrum graph indicate bearing noise.
The raspy, rough appearance of the Sound Pressure Level (SPL) shows grinding noise, not wind noise. Being within 10 feet on low is very annoying and becomes increasingly irritating as time goes on. A very disappointing experience.
