It didn't work for us, unfortunately. We covered it with a fitted sheet and it was fine; this was our third child, and the mattress met our expectations.
I don't think there's any reason why it shouldn't be done. Simply keep an eye out for when they begin to pull themselves up. However, I believe this cradle has a 30 or 50 pound weight limit. That is something I am not convinced of.

Well-made and durable, this item is well worth the money, if not more! We're overjoyed to have this cradle next to our bed! The espresso has a lovely color to it as well. However, you should get a better mattress than the one that comes with it; the one that comes with it is only about an inch thick and should be tossed or used as a car changing pad. Purchase a 36 x 18 x 4 inch mattress, which will fit perfectly as shown in the photos. I wasted way too much time trying to figure that out, so take my advice and save yourself a headache:.
I had no idea it was an almost metallic gray color, but it was a pleasant surprise, and I'm hoping our baby boy will be able to use it for a while.
It seemed thin for a 2" thick product, so I took a measurement and found it to be 1. 5". It's here now, and it fits our 1979 cradle perfectly. Despite being thinner than I expected, it appears to be of reasonable quality. Our baby is due soon, and I don't want to waste time returning it and looking for another one in this size; for this price, it should suffice for the few months our son will be small enough to use the cradle.
This one was superior to the one we used for our first child. Kid number two has been using it every night for the past two and a half months, and only minor rutting has developed. I'll attach a photo to this message - It's used in a cradle.
Once assembled, the cradle isn't quite as sturdy as I'd hoped. It appears that a wriggly baby would cause it to wobble a lot. I'm not concerned about the possibility of it tipping over. It's certainly sturdy enough to stand on its own. br>br>On our carpet, the small metal feet you use to keep it from rocking don't work very well. That's most likely due to the squishy nature of our carpet. On a harder floor, I believe it would hold up a little better. Apart from that, the cradle is fantastic! It has a nice appearance and is the perfect size for our room. br>br>I bought a different mattress for it ahead of time, based on a suggestion from another comment I saw--I probably didn't need to-- The mattress that came with the cradle is adequate (though the new one I purchased is much nicer, so know that there are better mattresses available).
But it's exactly what we were hoping for - Gold Seal of Approval from the Greenguard Environmental Institute firm - When the baby moves, it does not make a lot of noise. It slides into a handmade zippered quilted slipcover and American Baby Company 100% Natural Cotton Value Jersey Knit Fitted Bassinet Sheets Fit Perfectly Natural Cott It is very comfortable for the baby to sleep on.
This is something we bought to keep next to our bed for the first few months after the baby arrives. We discovered that our pack and play with bassinet topper was extremely bulky, difficult to maneuver, and did not rock the first time we used it. By comparison, I'm overjoyed with this bassinet! It was simple to put together, the silvery/gray color scheme is very appealing, and the interior space is much larger than I anticipated. I purchased a second baby lounger from a different company, expecting the mattress to be firm, but was pleasantly surprised to discover that it is actually quite soft. My only criticism is that the base construction wiggles a little even when the screws are tightened. We'll just keep an eye on it and tighten it up here and there if it gets too wiggly, I'm sure. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase and would highly recommend this nursery furniture!.
