I read the instructions thoroughly This is what I thought at the time. There is a metal bar that runs under the bench board and it has one hole in the middle to which the middle support bar attaches. You can easily put the bar in the wrong place if you don't pay attention. I thought everything that I had done thus far was fine until I tried to attach the wooden panels with the hooks to the uprights. People, keep an eye out for the hole! I'm a chowderhead, so don't be The only reason I gave it 4 out of 5 stars is because the screws for the coat hooks are very short, and if you use a drill to drill through the particle board, you can strip the surface. It will be a bit challenging to attach the hook unless I find some screws that are a little bit longer. In the first place, it probably would have been better to use a handheld screwdriver. In addition to the above, it's a very nice piece and does its job well. I liked how it came packaged and that it was simple to assemble, except for the darn hole. Buying it with our short term rental wouldn't have broken my bank since it was perfect for our hallway and we didn't have to break the bank. I find it to be rather flimsy, not very sturdy at all. that it is going to fall apart, but it does not take much to get it wobbling, so it is a nice It has quite a few small paint chips and flaws.
