Questions & Answers

Has anyone been able to make it work for a couple of years? After only a year, both my Oregon and Taylor temperature probes stopped working. ?

This product has been in our possession for a little over two years. When it works, it's great, but we just tossed the second probe away. It cost almost as much to order the replacement probe as it did to buy the first one. The concept is great, but I won't buy it again because the probes are so short-lived; we probably used ours once a week.

Where can I get replacement probes? This is where the system breaks down. Is there a way to get replacement probes from this company? Is it possible to use a standard probe?

If the probe fails, the company will replace it for free. If you run out of probes, they sell replacements.

Is it possible to calibrate the probe in boiling or ice water so that it accurately reads temperature?

No, the adjustment is made on the transmitting unit's internal circuit board. Place the temperature probe in boiling water and compare it to the temperature it should read, which is 212 °F at sea level, to see how far off it is. Each 500-word paragraph is accompanied by a With each additional foot of elevation, the boiling point of water drops by just under 1 degree Fahrenheit. Water boils at about 198 degrees Fahrenheit at 7,500 feet, for example. Simply ensure that the probe does not come into contact with the metal pot, as this will result in an incorrect temperature reading.

Is there a way to stop the LCD from blinking? This will be inconvenient during the 12-hour smoke process. ?

Hello B77,br>If you're referring to the remote's blinking LCD, there's no way to turn it off. As the cooking progresses, this light will eventually change colors. br>Thank you very much, i-br>i-br>i-br>i-br>i-br> Tronics

Thanksgiving was on its way to becoming a shambles
3/5

Temperature isn't something you can count on. While this device is inexpensive, depending on how much meat you burn and the importance of the event you're cooking for, you'll pay a much higher price if it breaks down. br>br>Having a device that would allow me to check the temperature of the turkey I was smoking for Thanksgiving appealed to me. I'd be able to spend more time with my family and less time hovering over the grill as a result of this. I assumed that was the case. The bird was supposed to cook for around 7 minutes according to the recipe. I went out and stuck the temperature probe in several different parts of the turkey at the 6 hour mark, realizing the bird was only reading 135°, which was much lower than expected given the short amount of time left and the fact that it had been reading 135° for quite some time. The temperatures were between 118 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit. On both the transmitter and receiver, the readings were the same. Because the probe was undamaged and the wire was undamaged, I reinserted it into the bird, closed the grill, and watched it cook. The temperature remained at 135° for about an hour before starting to drop. At this point, I gave up the ThermoPro and used my Javelin thermometer to check the temperature. The turkey breasts were 165 degrees this time, while the thighs were 180 degrees. At the 7-hour mark, the bird was done. I would have ended up with a dried out, overcooked (if not burned) turkey if I had continued to rely on the ThermoPro. br>br>Since then, I've used tap water to compare the ThermoPro to my Javelin. The temperature of my water heater is set to around 127 degrees Fahrenheit. When the Javelin was submerged in water, it read 130 degrees. I double-checked several times and found that the readings ranged from 130 to 200. 132°. The ThermoPro then came to a halt at 114 degrees. I tried again, and sure enough, it began to drop and eventually came to a stop at 73° on the second attempt. I also put my analog TruTemp meat thermometer to the test, which read 132° for my water (though it took a long time to get a reading compared to digital thermometers). br>br>When I first saw some of the negative reviews, I assumed they had received a defective unit. Besides, if it doesn't work, I'll return it, and at worst, I'll be out $35 (as opposed to $329 for a Flame Boss). For that price, I could buy ten ThermoPros and still come out ahead. WRONG. You must consider the cost of the meat you will lose if your ThermoPro fails to read properly during the cook, as well as the impact on the event you are cooking for (any major holiday, reunion, or party). etc). This year's Thanksgiving came up short for me. br>br>I agree with some of the other reviews that it feels like it's made of cheap plastic and wouldn't be able to withstand a three-foot drop. That is, however, the sort of thing I expect when it comes to "you get what you pay for. " However, regardless of price, a product must be capable of performing the primary function for which it is advertised.

After 4 months, I decided to stop working; I have a warranty, but have received no response from the vendor (it's been weeks)
3/5

To begin, I signed up for a 3-day workshop. I contacted them about a faulty unit with a one-year warranty and have received no response in the last few weeks. It was great until it wasn't. br>br>It was great until it wasn't. In the open air, the probe has reached nearly 200 degrees F. There's no explanation for why the thermometer reads so high when it's not inserted into anything because it was never dropped or otherwise damaged. br>br>I've used it to smoke meats and bake in the oven at home, so it doesn't get too hot. To make matters worse, the wired probe can only be plugged into the small, remote unit (which could be the problem here). I could get by with just using the handset, but I'm unable to connect the probe wire to that (large) unit- There is a jack knockout, but no jack. Cost-cutting, alas. br>br>I've added some photos and a red rectangle around the jack-in-the-box. In the event that the remote (smaller) unit fails, there should be a knockout on the main unit that can receive a probe. The biggest letdown here is the lack of communication from the vendor (iTronics) after registering for the 3-day event. a one-year warranty I'd had it for about 4 months when it suddenly stopped working.

But I figured that if he found it useful, I could get him a "better" one later
5/5

No need. There are a lot more expensive grill thermometers on the market, so I was hesitant to get this one as a gift for my son-in-law. I figured that if he found it useful, I could get him a "better" one at a later date. No need! The receiver has an excellent range, and food comes out perfectly cooked every time; he's had the thermometer for 6 months, and I've since purchased two more as gifts, with rave reviews from all. A great product at an even better price!.

For about a year, the thermometer was perfect
3/5

After about a year of service, the thermometer began to read incorrect temperatures. I sent an email to i- Within a week, I received a free replacement from Tronics. The replacement probe I received also broke after a few uses, reading over 100 degrees in the room. Despite the fact that the probes have a lifetime warranty, I was told I couldn't get a replacement because my product had expired.
