Sadly, I had to discard this unit after just 6 months because the metal probe/tube came out of I was able to get a quick temperature indication when it was whole. However, even though I took great care to handle it and clean it, the product's fundamental cheapness overcame my effort. Avoid it, pay a few more dollars and get a unit that will not fall apart. I tried to reinstall the probe and the installation failed. The display shows a lot of numbers!.

A buddy of mine bought this on 6/8 and I liked it so much, I bought a separate one on 6/30 for baking. I thought he might have dropped it so I pulled out the baking one and it worked again. My friend used it recently when he was over, so I found it in his kitchen. Ink had been wiped out of an entire column. As it is the only one using it, I know it did not go missing. Temperature reading has been changed to 160 degrees. It's time to update my thermometer, since these were good but I now think they need replacements. My favorite thing about this thermometer is its simplicity. That it takes a regular AAA battery is one of the things I like most about it. As opposed to my last thermometer, I will not need to purchase a more expensive "button type" battery.
