This is a piercing thermometer for use in the kitchen. Unless you're taking the rectal temperature of a whole beast roasting on a spit, the only rectum this should be near is your back pocket.
It's a quick readout that's also very clear. It is stated that it is waterproof. I've had no problems using it while it's been snowing outside;

It will work for candy that has melted into a liquid state, as well as anything else that the probe will sink into.

Wow. I've struggled before with obtuse and vague product instructions, but this one takes the cake in a way that will never be surpassed. The only instructions in the box are supposed to be for calibrating the device. Only a hazy interpretation of English can be made from the three dozen words provided. When you try to follow them and calibrate against them, nothing happens. some sort of thing Oh, wait, the box has a QR code on it! Nope. This product's web searches at ink-jet. com lead to a server that does not exist. There are only a few listings for this product on bird. Those links, however, do not work because those servers do not exist. br>br>And this is coming from a science PH with a lot of experience. Another science graduate with experience with bench equipment is trying to figure out what's going on. We eventually conducted a variety of tests with boiling and ice water over the course of the next 30 minutes to demonstrate that it appears to work, but geez! br>br>After rereading the reviews with more care, I am now extremely skeptical of everything - if any - are genuine If, like me, you prefer to rely on a measuring device that you first understand how it works, there are certainly other products that must be more easily usable and that provide real instructions, a manual, or a corporate web server that exists. Select a different item!.
When I read negative reviews that compared its performance to that of a 5-year-old device, I was disappointed. I'm laughing because it's eight times the price. It has a temperature response that is acceptable for high-end home chefs. Its features may be lacking in comparison to the $100 competition, but what do I need from a culinary temperature probe? br>br>To be honest, I'm content with a cdn analog dial probes, but the large readout and specific temp /- range are appealing. The digital inkbird at 5°F is extremely handy. Second, and perhaps more importantly, my sous chef (wife) refuses to use a dial and prefers to use the digital instead. Third, a large digital readout, as opposed to an analog dial, is easy to read after a few beers at a summer family barbecue. Nobody enjoys overcooked meat, so serving 200 of your closest friends perfectly grilled or bbq'd chicken, tritip, brisket, and ribs is a great idea! br>br>*Update
I'm on my fourth one of these thermometers now. I now have two, one for my kitchen and the other for my outdoor grill and camping equipment, as if one wasn't enough. br>br>I also gave one to my brother-in-law-in-law-in-law-in-law-in-law-in-law-in- Father-in-Law law. Every one of the four devices is frequently used. As far as I'm aware, there have been no issues.
In Minnesota, I have a certification in food safety. Instead of my old-school thermometers, I wanted a nice digital thermometer. Because of the high ratings (800) and five stars, I decided to purchase this. It appeals to me that it has been re-created. I like the orange color, and the numbers are chargeable, but calibrating this one is a pain in the neck. Yes, I know my altitude and air pressure to calculate boiling points here, so I used both the ice bath and boiling temperatures. Anyway, after some tinkering, I was able to get the ice bath to the correct temperature. I agree with the others that you should look up how to make the calibration adjustments on the internet, because this one is quite sensitive and has wide ranges. It also seems to lose its charge after a few days and needs to be plugged in, which is inconvenient for retrieving and using on a need-to-know basis. Very let down.

I recently purchased the Inkbird IHT-F001, which is their newer generation. br>br>The Inkbird IHT (Inkbird Inkbird Inkbird Inkbird Inkbird Inkbird Inkbird Inkbird In In almost every way, the 1P instant digital thermometer outperforms the previous generation. br>br>The response time has greatly improved, and I've noticed that settling on a temperature usually takes about 4 seconds. My home is located at an elevation of 1,214 feet above sea level. At this elevation, water has a boiling point of 209. 572 °F. Despite the fact that I have yet to calibrate this thermometer, I was pleased with the results of my tests. br>br>You can calibrate it anywhere from 0 through a special menu. Up to 5 °F/°C in 1 °F/°C increments. This is a fantastic feature for people who live in higher-elevation areas. br>br>The thermometer is more ergonomic than the previous model, making it easier to use and more compact. The new color, which is complemented by an excellent bright display, is the first thing you'll notice when you open it. br>br>In comparison to the previous model, which had a switch inside the battery compartment, there is now a dedicated button to switch between Fahrenheit and Celsius, and it, like its predecessor, has a 10-minute auto shut-off. timer has been turned off br>br>As soon as the probe is extended, the thermometer illuminates with a bright display. I can't think of a reason not to get one with all of its features and low price.
Right out of the box, it worked perfectly. The battery eventually ran out of power. I tried to charge it by plugging it in, but the battery wouldn't charge. I double-checked the instructions to make sure I wasn't missing anything; it appears that I simply received a bad one.
