Questions & Answers
Both the pepper and salt grinders are in my possession. The inner workings of both are identical - Ceramic grinders are used by both of them. Apart from the salt being pre-measured, the only difference is that The ring that surrounds the OXO badge on the top of the grinder is filled with salt and pepper. The pepper is black, while the salt is white.
I haven't had any problems with mine, but you could try removing some salt and changing the coarseness a couple of times first. It's possible that a large salt flake has become lodged in your ear.
Although the grinder does not include salt, all salt is gluten-free. Wheat is the source of gluten.
Although I don't own a salt grinder, my pepper grinder is entirely made of metal, whereas the salt grinder appears to have a clear side.

This means only using completely dry salt granules and keeping the salt grinder away from humid areas. Otherwise, the wet salt will collect at the mill's outlet, obstructing the salt's outlet and making it nearly impossible to dose to the desired size, assuming the salt even manages to leave the mill. It is at this point that the product's significant disadvantage over competing products becomes clear. br>br>To solve the problem of clogging caused by wet salt, remove the bottom cover (the only one it has), wash it with water, and make sure it is completely dry inside before recharging it with absolutely dry granules of salt (I had to use a hair dryer because the end where the ceramic mill is located was still damp after 24 hours of washing and draining). Other similar salt grinders have a screw cap that allows access to the ceramic stone for cleaning and maintenance in the event of clogging, in addition to the lid for loading salt. This is a significant advantage over the OXO product, which does not allow direct access to the ceramic stone, and it is for this reason that I can only give it three stars. This product, in my opinion, is overpriced. Amazon has given it a rating, and it should be reviewed so that the customer is aware of the product's benefits and drawbacks.
We used to have a salt grinder with the grinding mechanism on the bottom. It always made a mess on the counter, table, or wherever else you put it. As a result, I began my search for a replacement and came across this. The idea of being able to select your grind with clear indicators and settings appealed to me. My preference is for a finer grind, whereas my wife prefers a coarser grind. This's fine setting is still pretty coarse in my opinion - It could be a little bit more refined. Also, I went to use it the other day and the twisting from grinding the salt must have loosened the refill cap on the bottom because all of the salt spilled out on the floor on my first twist. It was extremely inconvenient, but I'm hoping it was a one-time occurrence or an error on the part of the operator. It'll be thrown out if it happens again.
This was a December 2014 purchase. My family cooks with Celtic Sea Salt. This is a natural sea salt that contains all of the trace minerals found in sea water because it is essentially dehydrated sea water. However, it's still a little damp, which could lead to metal parts corroding. The center grinder finally fell out after nearly two years of use. I contacted customer service and informed them of the situation. I received the product in less than a week after they replaced it. br>br>In the same wet sea salt service, we have another grinder that looks exactly like this one and has been running for about 5 years. This item makes use of a non-corroding ceramic grinder. This one had a failure somewhere else and gave up too soon. OXO went above and beyond to ensure that our service life expectations were met. This product, as well as the company, comes highly recommended from me.
I unpacked it today, loaded it with pink Himalayan salt, and used it for dinner. br>br>Selection of grind size: I thought I liked the coarsely ground salt, but I prefer it on the second or third grind setting on this. If you prefer a finer grind, this will do the trick, and the effort required to grind salt is minimal. br>br>I prefer pink Himalayan salt, which this grinder easily grinds. br>br>I thought the price was a little high. I did see it for $10 at a Meijers grocery store nearby after I placed the order. 00 less, but it wasn't stainless steel, it was black. The stainless look appeals to me more. It appears that the stainless steel has cost me an additional ten dollars. br>br>Some people claim to have had this type and brand of salt grinder for more than ten years. That's how long I'm hoping it'll last me. Quality: br>br>Quality: br>br>Quality: br>br>Quality At this time, I am pleased with all aspects of quality. I can't comment on how long it will last because I just got it. br>br>I can't say how long it will last because I just got it. br>br>To summarize, I would recommend it to any of my friends or anyone else at this time.

I appreciate how simple it is to use. Refilling was the most difficult part for me. I had to watch two You Tube videos before I realized what I needed to do, and even then, I couldn't open it until I used a rubber mallet and a chisel to pound it open repeatedly because the cap was turned too tight and wouldn't budge without force. I was finally able to open it and refill it after loosening it up enough. I'm hoping I won't have this issue the next time I try to open it, but at the very least I know what I need to do.
In the last five years, I've gone through a lot of salt grinders, and they've all broken within the first six months, but not this one! It has a high quality feel to it, and you can customize the grind size.
The first one lasted a few years, but a small metal piece inside eventually came loose, indicating that the grinder pressure had been lost. We attempted to repair it but were unable to do so due to the grinder's construction, which prevented us from dismantling it sufficiently to replace the washer and reassemble it. The replacement we purchased lasted only 9 months before experiencing the same failure. This time, we'll go with a different brand; however, our original pepper grinder in the same style is still in good working order.
My husband and I have been cooking together for 40 years, and this is the best salt grinder we've ever used. At first, we were sceptical. After all, how useful could a salt grinder be? It has an excellent turning grip. br>br> Because it's stored with the grinder facing up, there are no salt grains all over the counter after it's been used. I can get my fine grind with the 5 settings, and my husband can get his fat grind with the click of a knob. I've read other reviews that say the smallest setting doesn't grind very fine, but I haven't noticed this. Each grind from our previous salt grinder resulted in a variety of sizes. It's a real pain.
