Questions & Answers

Is there a Victorinox logo imprinted on the metal? That is evident from the images available on the internet for the real deal. ?

My copy was purchased from Amazon in October of 2016. Victorinox, Swiss Made, Stainless steel is stamped on the blade. It was packaged in a Victorinox-branded plastic sheath. Victorinox is the seller I bought it from, according to my history. I have another Victorinox zester that is over 25 years old (I thought I lost it, hence the "replacement"), and they are identical. I hope this information is useful.

Selected User Reviews For Victorinox 5.3500-X1 Zester, Wood Handle, 4 inch, Brown

It's my second favorite zester, and that's saying a lot! Victorinox Zester with Wood Handlebr>br>This zester has a high carbon head with none of the flex that some of the cheaper versions have; it will not bend with vigorous use, and it is a rugged and attractive tool that will last a long time
5/5

br>br>I do wish it didn't have a wood handle so I could throw it in the dishwasher, and that it had a channel on the side for wider strips, but Victorinox also makes a zest For those who want to make lemon twists, Victorinox also sells a channel knife. Despite the fact that it must be handwashed, this Victorinox zester is a keeper. For those who prefer wood-handled tools, the handle is very appealing. It has beveled sharp holes, unlike some inferior zesters that have punched (blunt) holes, and it is very sharp and creates even strips of very thin zest. br>br> I did have to press a little harder than with some of my other zesters, but those zesters had other drawbacks as I explain in my other reviews, so for now, this is number two on my list of preferred zesters out of the many I have tried. br>I'm guessing that if the Victorinox zester with the polypropylene handle performs as well as this one, it'll be a tie for first place! br>br>Strongly suggested! br>br> MY SEARCH FOR A ZESTER THAT (SHOCK HORROR) ACTUALLY ZESTS! br>br> br>br>I needed a new zester because I use mine so much that it's always in the dishwasher when I need it. br>I couldn't find one in the same style as my old one, which I've had for several years and which works flawlessly except for a minor design flaw on the handle, which I've been able to work around. I reasoned that if I bought a better version, I could put my old one on standby in case of an emergency. I had assumed it would be a straightforward procedure, but I was mistaken. br>br>I've tried zesters that don't zest at all, zesters that only produce horrible little wobbly looking, thin zest fragments, zesters that are difficult to hold, zesters that produce great thin zest but don't make good zest curls with the channel knife on the side, zesters that don't have a channel knife at all, and so on. br>Because the journey has been so frustrating and disappointing, I thought I'd share my zest research )br>br>As for the 5-star reviews on some of these zesters that zest badly, I've given it a lot of thought and have come up with a few reasons why this could be the case. br>Perhaps it's because a good zester is so difficult to come by that the people who gave them a 5-star rating have never had the benefit of using one? br>However, some of the zesters I tried could be classified as "decorative only" because the holes are completely blunt, and they don't cut any zest AT ALL, even when using a lot of pressure, rendering them completely useless. However, they've received positive feedback. So either those reviews are fake, or they were written by people who received it for free but never used it, or the company started with a good version and then cut corners and switched things around. All of this irritates me greatly. br>br>I've tried a lot of zesters so far, and I've returned a few, kept a few, and thrown out a few. I'm ranking them so you don't fall for the same trap I did and fall for the positive reviews on some of them. br>As a public service to anyone looking for a zester that actually zests, I've reviewed all of the ones I've tried so far and ranked them from best to worst; I still have a couple in my cart to try, so keep checking back for updates. br>br>To see my other zester reviews, go to my profile and scroll down to the bottom of my reviews. Alternatively, go to my profile and look under "Ideas" to find a link to each zester I've tried and reviewed. Then, by clicking on the link, you'll be taken to the product page, where you can read my review. You can also "follow me" from my review page if you want to be notified when I publish a new review. I review a lot of cookbooks, kitchen products, and ingredients, so if you like this one, you might also like some of my other reviews. br>br>Would you click the helpful button if this has been of assistance to you? I put a lot of effort into my reviews, and it makes me very happy to know that they've helped like-minded customers sort through the nonsense:.

Rusted, Plating Peeling, Poorly Milled Handle Holes, and Low-Cost Knock-On Off
3/5

There are grooves around the zester holes and grooves along the metal's base, as shown in the pictures in the description. That is not present in the item I received, as depicted in the photos. br>br>This item is not made of stainless steel (Description: Head made of stainless steel with a high carbon content). After only a few uses, both sides are rusted. The plating on the head is literally peeling away. The holes were not sanded and smoothed, as evidenced by the poorly milled wood visible in the photos. br>br>These are obviously knock-offs. offs, and not what was advertised. This seller needs to be taken down from Amazon!.

Unless you're looking for a showpiece, save your money

The handle was nice, but the zester was so dull that it couldn't even zest butter. Working as an Executive Chef My Victorinox and Forsner knives are all the same. Very let down. With a Wal Mart brand, I had better results.

This is a must-have piece of technology! This is an excellent device
5/5

It was recommended on one of those "can't live without" kitchen gadgets lists years ago. I figured I'd take a chance and give it a shot. I'm so happy I did. This is the first time I've ever used a zester like this, and it's incredible. It's perfect for my needs around the house. After misplacing my previous one, I purchased this one. If I lost it tomorrow, I'd go out and buy another.

This is a fantastic resource
5/5

This is a very nice tool, with nice sharp bladed holes and a comfortable, sturdy wood handle. It's great for shredding a small amount of carrot for a garnish, but it's also good for citrus zest. What a lovely way to peel a cucumber, as well, as it makes a lovely gear. when you cut them into circles, they have a tooth design! One of the nicest kitchen tools I have is this one.

I wasn't in the mood for anything new
5/5

citrus zesting with a new-fangled rasp! It's lovely. Victorinox is a well-known Swiss watch manufacturer. My old, low-cost Target- The acid in the lemon/tangerine peel appears to have eaten away at the metal of the zester claw over time, and it finally gave up the ghost! Regardless, this one performs admirably and appears to be of heirloom quality.

I've had mine for over 20 years and it's still as sharp as it was when I bought it for a friend who couldn't find one.
