Questions & Answers
Slicing is all there is to it. The grating blades are pointing in the wrong direction, making it impossible to use the guard while it is in the grooves that hold it in place. It shouldn't be a problem, as long as you're careful.
Slices of bread; a wonderful product
You can thinly slice but not dice; I'd say yes to a carrot if it's small, but not to a cucumber unless it's a small one like an English cucumber.
Only the sliding tip can be removed to clean the blade.

What do the designers at joseph joseph think about this? Cooks are never asked to put their products to the test. I'm not going to buy anything else from this company. Now there's a garlic rocker, a ginger grater, and this. garbage. Because the finger protector is only on the mandoline/shaver side, there is no protection on the microplane grater side, which is only useful for slicing almonds. To move the finger protector, they could have cut slots in the grater side. They could have lengthened it by an inch and placed the grater teeth on the same side as the slicer.
This is a flaw in the design. I didn't read the reviews because I had already used so many wonderful Joseph designs. Terrible product, misleading product description, and Josephs should not be associated with a product that is so poorly designed and executed that it erodes customer trust. If this is their design competency, I will steer clear of Joseph products in the future.
I was desperate for a way to grate garlic without using my fingers. Due to the fact that the slicer runs on a track, the finger guard only works on the slicer side. Because I was looking for a grater, not a slicer, the grater function is on the opposite side and does not have a track to use the finger guard, which makes it pretty useless to me. The description does not make this clear. It's a pity they didn't include a track on both sides. It appears to be a simple fix that would have increased the product's versatility.
br>br>At first, I purchased a useless piece of plastic known as a "multifunctional microplaner. " "But it was all a lie. " It had been a non-starter from the start. a razor-sharp grater that was useless. br>br>And then I found this microplaner! I bought the microplaner without reading the reviews because I was so excited to find it instead of the grater. See? Simply place the garlic clove in the hopper, and your fingers will be safe. Yay! NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, and NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, Not even. br>br>However, the pictures appeared to be so perfect for what I wanted that I made the mistake of not reading the comments and reviews! What is the state of the world? br>br>This small device can slice radishes perfectly, as shown in the photos, but I don't like or eat them. Tiny pieces of garlic and ginger, on the other hand, are something I enjoy. This item isn't any better than my regular microplaner at chopping up tiny pieces of garlic and ginger. br>br>It has the potential to be fantastic, but it turns out to be completely incorrect. As you've probably noticed, the microplaner side has no finger guard, making it no safer than a regular microplaner for chopping garlic or ginger. br>br>I really like the size and shape, and I think it has a lot of potential. It could be fixed with a few seemingly insignificant manufacturing changes - 2) Make the blade itself removable/reversible so you can turn it around and still use the guard, or put a guard groove on the other side so you can move the guard back and forth between the two sides as needed. br>br>As a result, I'm still on the lookout for the ideal garlic/ginger tiny-piece maker. br>br>Sorry for the lengthy useless venting review, but it appears that Amazon is getting easier and easier to deceive me, or perhaps I am just getting stupider and stupider.
I gave it two stars because, despite the flaw in the design, I use it three times per week. The product is excellent and sharp, but it does have a flaw. Only the large sliver on top is protected by the hand-held safety piece. The flat edge of the paddle with the grater appears to be facing the handheld piece, indicating that it was designed backwards. There are no grooves to place the handheld grater in, so you can't turn it around and use it on the back. As a result, I've had to toss the handheld piece and grate with my hand, flipping the paddle depending on which side I'm working with.
I also enjoy the following Joseph Joseph kitchen gadgets: the knife cleaner and the garlic rocker Both designs are well-thought-out, excellent, and functional. But not so much with this grater/slicer thing. They simply didn't hit the mark. To use the finger protector, the grater should be on the same side as the slicing blade. Isn't that the whole point of grated ginger, to avoid getting skin on it? In addition, the finger protector does not slide easily. And my microplane zests better than the grater. Oh well, thanks for your effort, but this will be returned to you.
I grated the ginger and garlic to make it easier to grate. I was excited to get my hands on this piece of art. I grated the ginger and garlic to make it easier to grate. However, I was dismayed to discover that this device has a seriously stupid design flaw. The device's slicing and grating edges are on opposite sides, but the food holder's sliding track is only on the slicer side, making it useless for grating ginger or garlic because you have to hold it in your fingers. It would have been so much easier for the manufacturer to put the slide track on both sides, or the sharp edge of the slicer and grater on the same side, but I am not happy.
par. I also have a standard white and stainless steel mandolin style garlic slicer and grater, which works much better. I also have a microplane grater/zester, which takes care of this. I'm sorry I got caught up in the look rather than sticking to the tried-and-true.
