Questions & Answers
No, it's not the case. It's fantastic for watermelon.
I've had a lot of success with it when it comes to truffles. It's fantastic, in my opinion.
The bowls are open, and it's great!
With raw potatoes, I don't think it'll hold up. To be honest, the construction of this melon baller is shoddy. It had broken after only a few uses on melons.

There are no surprises in this section: This melon baller is low-cost (and thus "low-cost"). You can tell this tool isn't going to last long in the kitchen drawer right out of the package. The metal parts are extremely thin, and if you use it on a not-so-sturdy surface, it will bend. Melon that is fully ripe. If anything tells you anything, the wooden handle is the most substantial part. I had to use it about a half-dozen times before I was able to snap the smaller end off. If you only need a baller once in a while, this might suffice; Invest in a better tool if you don't already have one.
This double-sided melon baller isn't something you'll use every day to prepare a meal. It can, however, be of great assistance to you. It can be used to core melons or to remove the choke from fresh artichokes; I've also used it to core larger cherry tomatoes and backfill them with cheese spread on a snack tray for company. I'm sure I'll find other applications for it in the future.
The first side snapped off while I was scooping melons for my baby shower. Then I tried using the other side, which snapped off after only a few minutes. I was dissatisfied with such a low-cost product.
This melon baller is my personal favorite. I've used this product numerous times for a variety of purposes since buying it years ago. This baller works well with watermelons, honeydew, butter, ice cream, and other fruits and vegetables. It's the ideal accessory for making something truly unique. br>br>For example, a watermelon carving is my new go-to summer picnic item for all occasions. I've done swans, baskets, sharks, and more, and I always use this baller to carve out the best part. br>br>I've also tried this with butter to make perfect butter balls, and it worked great. Finally, when I use this with ice cream, it creates perfect little bite-size ice cream balls that can be dipped in chocolate for a special treat.
It's simple to use, and my daughter adores the little melon balls. I remember my mother making melon balls for me and loving them, so I figured it was worth a shot for $4. Huge hit. br>br>I gave it a 4/5 for toughness because I used it to scoop cookie dough out of the fridge, and the scoop bent slightly. I know it's not in a melon baller's wheelhouse, but the metal would have held up better if it had been a bit thicker gauge. That one, however, is entirely on my shoulders.
Many of them are poorly constructed and easily break, but I had no problems with this one. So far, it's held up well in everyday use. I like that it comes in two sizes so I can mix things up. br>br>I used it as a melon baller in preparation for a birthday party, and it performed admirably. For fun, I scooped ice cream for my kids with it. It worked well with ice cream that had been allowed to soften for a few minutes. On harder ice cream, I'm not sure it'd work as well. br>br>I don't think it would work well with cookie dough, as the description suggests. I'm not sure how the cookie balls would turn out if I tried them - They are less likely to fall out than melons or ice cream. If you're thinking about using it for that purpose, you might want to reconsider. br>br>Overall, a great product with great quality when used as intended!.
It works for its intended purpose, but it completely rusted after being washed and dried. Water also eroded the wood where it was left on the handle. If you get it, instead of putting it on a dish rack, I recommend washing it and then hand drying it.
I don't use this very often, but when I do, it's nice to have one. I found some in the stores for $12 to $15. I paid $4 for it, and it arrived promptly. It cuts well and is an excellent value. It appears to be adequate for my sporadic requirements.
