There are four and three quarter inches of wire on this kit. As far as cheese slicer rollers go, this was not a good one. Cheese slices were plated with metal and had come off. the wire out of another cheaper slicer which had a broken wire, and put it on the broken wire in that slicer. It fit perfectly and it did not require any complicated repair work. Even though it is an old wire, it is still functioning well. An injection of needles is likely to be required It is necessary to use needle-nose pliers (and a screwdriver) to accomplish this. This might be of some help!

Aluminum, the material used in the slicer, cannot be washed in the dishwasher because the detergent will damage aluminum.
As a cheese slicer owner for the past 30 years, high E guitar strings have proven to be the optimal wiring replacement. Any music store carries them and they are cheaper and much stronger than cheese slicer wires that break or stretch. You can get them for under $10 at the music store (even Target has them). It is long enough for one wire to restring about six times on the Presto

We had a much older version of this lasted for a long time and seemed to last After the wire broke, we tried to replace it, but it never worked again. A newer version of his design (which has the exact same design as the old one) seemed like A much newer version of this product has been found to be a very shoddy product and no longer works after only 2 months. We do not want to work with this coating anymore because it has peeled and looks awful. In order to dispose of it, we have to throw out the replacement window. The message we want to convey to potential customers is DO NOT BUY THIS.
The item was a replacement for an identical one that broke after being used for many years. The knife easily slices through a dense block of cheese, and so far, it has held up.
As most nights we eat cheese and crackers, we cut a significant amount Our reasoning is that we will eventually wear them out, so we will buy several at a time. Their design is superior to that of The problem is. Just like they used to, they're no longer made like they used to be. There is flaking on several of the pieces, as other reviews have pointed out. There have been issues with the wire too. No matter how careful we are, the wire keeps stretching and coming off the end posts. There is an older Presto that does not have this problem. It is probably over ten years old. However, they are cheaply made (junk) and are cheap (inexpensive).
A new wire could not be purchased for the broken cheese cutter, so we bought another one which works well in the meantime,.
This is just junk and a reminder that manufacturers are no longer as good as they used to be. As soon as I learned my ancient presto cheese slicer had died, I was thrilled to get a new one. It's made out of flaking off all over. The metal flakes embedded in each slice of cheese add a nice touch. We should avoid doing that, I'm sure it's unsafe. There has been a great deal of disappointment here.
To my mind, it keeps working for a long time. Served with hard cheese that is sliced so thinly. I really like the way it works.
I recognize the old 3-inch monitor I used to have In the drawer is an inch of 50 years' duration. In my case, I bought the larger 4-pound one It comes in all sizes, as cheese is available in all shapes and I was able to risk a fix on the old one since I had the new one. Using the new functionality, it will once again slice cheese. My wire was able to be tightened by removing the end screw. I am happy as long as it holds.
A few months ago, I was looking for a replacement for my old one. My search led me to this slicer after attempting several others. In addition to this one, I've donated all the other items to Goodwill, some of which were more expensive! In addition to feeling good in the hand, the Presto slicer is strong, precise, and well built.
