As I made Old Fashioneds with this muddler, I was very excited about it. I was pleasantly surprised by how well it worked the first time. I noticed a puddle under it after I took it out of the drawer for a second time. The water didn't bother me until I tried to muddle my sugar cube, and even more water came out from between the black plastic handle and metal base. There was so much water in the bottle that I could not add whiskey before my sugar cube dissolved. It leaks water every time I use it, so my clothes and everything else gets When I make an attempt to use it, it takes so long to get rid of all the water that it is not even worth the effort.

My next surprise was finding the black head full of water after it went through the dishwasher. As I looked at the ad again, I found it only in the manual that it says to use a dishwasher. The ad does not indicate that the item should be washed by hand. Reviewers claimed not to run it through the dishwasher in one review. I had to shake for a long time to get the water out. The black head cannot be removed, and it was my assumption that the water could get into the shaft by where it meets the black head. If the area were sealed or easily removed and cleaned, I believe you would have gotten a better design. In the next few days, I will try to seal that gap with something, but I do worry that mold will form inside. If I hadn't already recycled the packaging, I would send it back.

For my Wisconsin Old Fashions, I picked this up so I could muddle orange peel and cherries. A very sturdy muddler in your hand that feels very ergonomic. It gets an extra fresh flavor in your drinks while being very durable. For those of you who don't know what a muddler is, it is basically cutting up a maraschino cherry into many small pieces, which releases more flavor. The surface is very easy to clean, and it complements my other bar gear extremely well.
