Yes, you can tighten the adjustable screw to keep the pole in place.
I'm not familiar with common core math or the milling and weighing of cast iron products. I bought two sets of two stands each for a total of four stands. Each stand is four pounds in weight. 8 pounds. They look great with a quick coat of Rustoleum every year or so. They do a fantastic job of holding our torches for the fire pit. They were on sale at the time, and we believe they were a good buy. Best of luck with your math assignment!
As small as 1/4 inch and as large as 1 1/4 inch can be inserted into the opening. An adjustment screw in the opening can be used to tighten it against the pole being held. The opening is rounded on one side and forms a v on the other, allowing the small size pole to fit more snugly into the v side.
I'm not sure because I live in Arizona and we don't have a rust problem. I'd suggest spraying it with a light oil.

Many websites selling these reviews state that they are used with umbrellas, and the majority of people despise it. For a full-sized umbrella, it's a little small and light. However, if they use a table with an umbrella hole, I can see how some people manage to make it work. I'm not planning on using it with any type of umbrella, so I'll skip that warning. br>This past week, I picked up some CLEAR MATTE Rustoleum Spray paint to use to cover this stand, especially the underside, because I've read that rust can form. My husband thinks I'm overly concerned because he thinks it's beautifully painted. I tend to agree with you up to a point. If other people have complained about similar, if not identical, items, a small amount of caution appears to be warranted. I plan to use it primarily inside a tent, but I'm considering making a second one to use outside as well. Paria tent poles are what I'm carrying with me. a pair of them as backup poles in case the attached poles on my favorite tent break. They're going to break eventually. They sent me a tent with one of the poles inserted backwards, and it was busted when it arrived. The new one hasn't failed yet. However, I am hesitant to use it because it is so delicate; however, I adore the tent. I also discovered the wonderful LED/USB light bulbs with on/off switches that plug into power banks that charge phones only a year ago. Because we don't have a cell phone and live in a dead zone, most of our area up here is without tower service. I'm not a big fan of tiki torches. But I did pick up two lantern arms and will pick up two more, as well as two more stick in the ground with nails umbrella pole holders to use outside the tent with the paria poles. These are proving to be quite difficult to make because they will require PVC pipe inserts or a wood rod that has been drilled out for the poles to slide down into. It's essentially a round shim. Because the poles are smaller than many umbrella poles, this tiki stand might require some additional support. This will not be a problem for me because I enjoy taking on unique DIY projects. This stand should be painted, in my opinion. It's iron, so it might rust if you keep it inside, but if you keep it outside, it shouldn't. I plan to use it both inside the tent and outside at home. If I have two, I can set them up as two poles with a rod or rope between them to create a privacy wall inside the larger tents as well. Overall. This item meets my expectations for the purpose for which it will be used. It's a do-it-yourself project, though it's not light. It's a good size for camping in the car. Or, as they're calling it these days, glamping, for when you go overboard on the creature comforts.
These are truly lovely and will add a touch of romance to a torch that would otherwise be dull. One of the two, however, had a broken nut on the side; it's heavy case iron, but these are only lightly tack welded on, so I'm sure the shake-up was due to that. It was knocked off by the fact that it was up in shipping. Once the issue has been resolved, I will gladly update this review. I'm hoping they'll only send the part and I won't have to go out of my way to send the entire package. They are just as lovely as they appear to be. br>br>*update* a replacement was sent out and arrived two days later without any problems. I appreciate the promptness, and these are truly beautiful. That's a whole new level of backyard fun!.
These cast iron Tiki torch stands were purchased in multiples of four. They're heavy and do a great job of holding the torches. During their time in these stands, the torches have survived several heavy thunderstorms without falling down. They have a good look to them. The only factor that reduces these to a three-star rating is the following: To begin with, if you scratch the paint even slightly, they will rust very quickly. Yes, they're made of cast iron, which I'm aware of. However, before putting them outside, I applied an additional coat of Rustoleum, and they will need to be wire brushed and repainted on a regular basis. Keep it painted, just like any other metal that's kept outside, and it'll look great for a long time.
They play an important role in the torch's operation. To make matters worse, mine rusted in a week, just like everyone else's. I place an order for three. The tie down on one of the three was stripped. I made an attempt to contact TIKI directly. Customer service was terrible after waiting on hold for more than 30 minutes. I'm not sure I'd buy anything from the Tiki Company again, and I can't say I recommend them either.
I ordered two of these and received two glossy-coated stands in return. However, after my first use, one of the tightening screws snapped in half, so I'm returning it to Amazon. br>br>I ordered two more to replace the broken stand, but I received two that were not glossy. I also placed an order from the same product page. I'm glad I ordered two instead of one, because otherwise my stands would be mismatched! br>br>I'm curious as to why these two stands are so different, as it appears to be some sort of odd refurbishment, especially since I noticed they were reselling refurbs on the site for a dollar less, but I didn't want those because it wasn't worth it to save a dollar.
The screw hole welding on this product was a mess. Due to welding imperfections around the screw hole, I had to return a couple of units because the screw that holds the pole in place would not fully screw in. Metal jags that should have been welded off would get caught in the screw. As a result, the pole was unable to be held in place securely. After all was said and done, we received two units free of flaws. As a result, the stands are now performing as they should. Good, but not great, quality.
Very let down. I have two tiki torches from the 'Tiki brand,' and they barely stay upright (and when they do, they're canted to one side) due to the opening being more of a tear drop shape than the round shape of the torches themselves. You could try inserting a few pieces of short PVC pipe and then sliding the torches in to see if that helps, but honestly, this isn't necessary. It also serves as a torches holder. Torches for use outside. Unless you're using this as an umbrella (which, if that's what it's for, it should be labeled as such), I suspect you'll be disappointed after 2 days.
