In addition to the 1 cup and 2 cup versions, I also have the 4 cup version. A 2 cup size is suitable for things like chili or soup in which a single serving is needed. In the process of making food, I portion out portions into these containers and store them in the fridge until I need them for lunches or quick meals. It works fine in my microwave, fridge, and dishwasher, and it's sturdy. Since I do not want to have to worry about whether the lid is in the right spot to not get sucked onto the bowl, but is covered enough to not let food splatter everywhere, I do not use lids in the microwave. Similarly, I do not use the heating function on my dishwasher (to save energy, to be able to wash certain items that aren't dishwasher safe, or to put items on any rack that belong on the top Although I used the heat dry in the past without any issues with the lids, I have not used it for a long time. I just purchased this set, but I have a couple other sets I own that I have had for about a decade. A wide variety of uses can be found for these durable products. As well as being well packaged, this set arrived in perfect shape. My first impression is that the containers were great. I've received broken containers from other sellers in the past, but these arrived undamaged.
UPDATE The 21st century Even after two attempts, it's still holding up. This is the fifth year. There was one lid yesterday that had cracked on the edge, but still all the others work fine.
The first set of these we bought many years ago and the second one we bought just recently. I still have the first set in excellent condition and have not had any chips, cracks, or breaks. As with the previous set, this one also looks the same. Their lifespan is expected to be just as long as their predecessors. This item's glass is thick and won't chip and all of its lids fit tightly so soup won't spill out if it is tipped over. They are great for the microwave or fridge, also for lunches because we take them with us to work or to school. It has a capacity of 2 cups, perfect for single servings. There is no problem washing all parts in the dishwasher. Pyrex makes a great product.
' The lids on the darker blue ones from last year are more durable and withstand the microwave. The main issue with these, and the reason I am very worried about using them for hot food or even for taking them from the freezer to the microwave, is that when I was putting spoons full of not very hot food into one, it suddenly shattered - glass shot everywhere. Luckily, it was not at the level of my eyes, but if someone standing next to me had been standing close by, the glass would have reached them. There was no end to it It was not only my dinner that was ruined, but so many shards ended up going such a distance that I keep finding little pieces of them all over the place. Pyrex seems to have a wide range of uses and this bowl was out of the cupboard with food inside. It had salmon in a Japanese dish, so I don't think this is an unusual use. These facts combined with the bad lids will lead me to buying new ones and I'm seriously considering throwing them all out This was a new Pyrex for me and I use it for leftovers, soups, etc.
I've used Pyrex for many years without any issues, but this was a good investment. The decline in quality happened simultaneously with the decrease in lid quality Now it appears to have been extended to the glass as well.
Most reviews I read cited negative experiences with other products that led me to select this product. I thought it was funny that most of the reviews complained about the lids, and not the glass product itself. It seems absurd to criticize plastic or vinyl lids that did not withstand being microwaved. Immediately after it was placed in the microwave, why was it in there? This appears to be an operator error rather than a defect in the product. It is expected that I will use this properly used product for years to come.
This is a better alternative Veggies or foods based on tomatoes do not stain. It is a lack of enough that is the problem. All of them are in use, and you want one. Maybe I need to place an order for.
These containers are the perfect size. I used to battle with plastic containers that stained from certain foods (especially tomato), but these are much better. The containers are sturdy, substantial, and just the right size to freeze soup in. I make soup in a crockpot and freeze individual portions in them. Generally, they can be served hot, cooled in the refrigerator, frozen well, and then microwaved for just a few seconds, and they hold up superbly.
After using it in the microwave, the lid was completely damaged. The label on the lid said it was microwave-safe.
I own a pyrex container of the same size that I have owned There are still a couple missing. Although it is stated that you can use it in the microwave, the top will melt. This is the same amount of time I used it for as my last top, and it has never happened before in the other tops I have owned. That does raise the question of why the product quality would differ.
