It is equipped with an on-board computer. There is no actual temperature gauge, but there is an off dial that allows you to regulate the temperature. So you're either turning it all the way on or off, or somewhere in the middle, and you have no idea what temperature it is.
5 quart containersbr> I'm a huge fan of this! It's a lot easier to entertain now. I wish the food was heated to a higher temperature! What a brilliant idea!

No, it's made of plastic. Keep food from drying out by using this method. It appears to be in good condition.

Tonight, I put it to the test by making Chicken Enchiladas with Rice. Beans. The food warmer did emit an odor because it was the first time it was used, but it dissipated after a few minutes. We used a food thermometer to check the temperature of the food, and it was holding steady at 160 degrees after an hour, so it wasn't in the "Danger Zone. " The food was hot and delicious when it was served! br>br>I placed the trays DIRECTLY on the hot plate, and the accompanying frame was placed ON TOP of them. If you place them ON the frame, they will sit about 3/4 of an inch ABOVE the trays for indirect heat, so I guess it depends on what you're serving / keeping warm(? br>br>In terms of serving size, the first tray held 4 enchiladas made with SMALL flour tortillas. At least one, if not two, more could easily be squeezed in. The second tray contained 2 cups of cooked rice, while the third tray contained 1 cup of cooked rice. 15 ounce can of homemade black beans, with room for at least 4 more if necessary. There's a lot of condensation on the lids - However, this does help to keep the food moist. br>br>This would be best for small dinner parties or gatherings. During our party (at least 20 people), I'm guessing I'll have to do a lot of refilling. Overall, I enjoy it and would strongly suggest it to others.
Excellent as a side dish or an appetizer. For Thanksgiving, I used this to keep the sides warm while the rest of the meal cooked. It was a perfect fit. I was able to keep things warm without burning them. I cooked it for several hours to feed a group of 20 people, and there were plenty of leftovers. Green beans, stuffing, and potatoes were easily doubled in size on each tray. The lids are made of a tough plastic that washed up well. On the bottom, there are a few narrow metal pieces that aren't particularly sharp. The components were well-matched. I let it run for several hours before using it, which eliminated the 'new' smell. My version wasn't as strong, but I didn't want the taste of the dishes to be tainted.
This appliance worked great for moving batches of grits casserole and potato casserole from the big ugly baking pans to the chafing pans and keeping the food warm while people grazed. It was also effective at keeping croissants warm without drying them out. You'll need a short extension cord for this. I taped the extension cord to the floor with large bright masking tape. (Thank you so much, OSHA, sarcastically. ) because the appliance cord is impossibly short )br>It's a great addition to any party's planning, and it's also very easy to clean up. It's unlikely that you'd be able to run a catering business with it, but it's ideal for home use.
I'm looking forward to using it for taco night, chili dogs, and other get-togethers. I also appreciate the fact that I can take the top off and use my own dishes for other creative presentations. We had no trouble keeping the food hot, so I'm not sure why anyone would give it anything less than a five-star rating. It worked flawlessly!.
Before putting my Thanksgiving potatoes and dressing in the warming containers, I microwaved them until they were very hot. I had preheated the unit according to the instructions and set it to high heat, but the potatoes and dressing would have been cold if it hadn't been for the gravy that had come off the stove. It's attractive and simple to use, but it doesn't do the job. I responded by returning it.
Simply put, this isn't a high-quality item.
As others have noted in their reviews, the metal warming tray is admittedly cheap and flimsy. However, I got the set for half the price because it was lightly used, and it is well worth the money. The heat distribution is unaffected by the dent. The buffet warms up quickly, and the trays are a good size for Thanksgiving and Christmas side dishes. A tray isn't large enough to hold a whole turkey, but it can hold 5 pounds of potatoes or stuffing and gravy for 20 people. It'll hold 30 people just fine; it's not pretty, but it'll do the job.
It worked well, but everyone who buys this item should be aware of this. Make certain to prepare ahead of time. 20 minutes on high heat.
