Questions & Answers

Can you tell me if these are "made in China"? It is clear from the description and details that the item is made in Germany. ?

Over the years, I have owned a pair of Messermeister poultry shears. Messermeister's trademark and name appear only on mine, rather than Made in China. There was no packaging available at the time. According to the product description, this is a Portuguese product. My scissors are very well made, made of stainless steel with a polished finish, are very heavy, substantial, These Chinese-made ones are likely knock-offs, although Messermeister would no doubt be able to confirm it.

As a matter of fact, they are referred to as "take aparts." Can they be taken apart while they are being used?

I do not expect them to come apart when I use them

Does this pair of shears cut through the bones in chicken legs and thighs? Thank you. ?

In the past I have used Messermeister shears to cut through breast bones, joint joints, wing and leg bones, just about every part of chicken but I would not expect cutting through the leg or thigh bones to be easy. If one wanted to do that, I would think one would need something else besides

A Sanitary Design is not in place
3/5

In spite of the fact that they have been comfortable and even durable, they have broken every rule of There is no way a device like this can be properly cleaned and sanitized for food use. Slits have been cut into the soft rubber handles in a rather crude manner Slits are cut in the slit-like material so the hafts of the stainless steel scissor portion can go in. It's impossible to get the food residues and moisture out of the handles even if they are filled with brushes. Each handle is a hollow container that allows food debris and moisture to collect. It's either back to the drawing board for these or only sell them for tasks that don't include preparation of food. As for mine, I use it only for shopping and gardening. Despite the fact that the water took far too long to dry out, it is easy to see the corrosion that has formed on the stainless steel in the photo. The design of kitchen utensils should be modular/unitary so that there are no voids where food and liquid can be contaminated.

There are no words to describe how highly I recommend these
5/5

In order to cut up turkey, I broke my wife's kitchen shears, so I bought a heavy-duty set which had all-steel handles and was dishwasher safe. There was a huge disappointment in the set I bought at the kitchen supply store. I had a very difficult time gripping the handle when it was wet with poultry juices, resulting in sliding, twisting, and literally ruined my shears the first time. In order to check reviews on Amazon, I went there. While the Messermeister appeared to be the most popular, it looked less beefy than the commercial ones that I already destroyed, but I thought I would still give it a shot. I found the reviews were correct, these shears cut chicken bones as easily as The whole chicken can be dissected in about 10 seconds by using my machine, rather than several minutes by stabbing and sawing with a knife. Separating the meat for easier washing makes the whole meal so much more enjoyable.

Tends to fall apart as it is used
3/5

This pair of scissors was something I had hoped I would like. Prior to this purchase, I acquired a set of Messermeister steak knives and I am in love with them. With these scissors, I had hoped I would have a similar experience. It is the sharpness and the comfort of the handle that I enjoy about the scissors. They have an Achilles heel, but that is their Achilles There's a screw that holds every one of them together, but it has a hard time staying firmly in place. If you want to open and close your scissors with a reasonable amount of force, either you can set the tension high enough so the scissors don't fall apart while you are using them or you can set the tension low enough so that the scissors fall apart in your hands while you are using In terms of adjusting the screw, there is no Goldilocks zone.

This is junk, you should find a better one
3/5

After preparing raw food for my cats using "cheapo" poultry shears for so many years, I was excited to receive "quality" poultry shears. My first clue that the metal spring bit was junk came when it flew off immediately and I had to paw around on the floor to find it. As a result, the spring part of these is not secured at all, and if you open them far enough to use the bone handle you will have no idea what you are doing. It will fly off once you cut a notch in it. There is little texture on the handles, so when they become wet with gore, they are slick. In such a case, you have to tear them with brute force, since there is no chance of cutting them. Shin or tendons slide between the blades sideways and you don't even have the option of cutting them. Getting your hands on bones, tendons, or skin is tricky. Even though it can kind of cut between bones, anything can accomplish the same thing. The same applies to the ability to cut skinless, boneless chicken breasts. However, my grandmother's butter knife can also do it. purchased these hoping they would ease the process, but they were even worse than the This is a brand-new feature. It makes me shudder to think how badly those knives would cut after they The very fact that you have a flying spring is worth its price on its own As a breaker, it also has many other attributes that just prove its point. This is something you do not want.

I give it a full four and a half stars! I definitely find these to be a better fit for my hand I use the 5" model since I am left handed, but the blade is shorter and there is no curved part to the blade, which makes them less useful than It is 5" in overall length
4/5

I do not necessarily have a complaint, but merely an observation on the fact that I bought both types, and I hope they are going to release My shear collection would be complete if there were a 10" model as well! These two will both cut/slide through a sheet of notebook paper like butter, as my upholstery shears will as well. The glide cut involves opening the scissors around the 2- to 3-inch mark You need to hold them taught, and then push the blades through what you're cutting without moving the blades. It is usually not a problem when you are working with fabric, but when you are dealing with thin paper the paper may move or slide if you don't keep it secure with your fingers. The blade will slice through like butter if it is "really" sharp. It is one of the sweet spots on both of mine. I don't find this part critical as I'm mostly using them for fowl and meat. Just an additive to determine This pair of upholstery shears only rates an 8 out of 10 in my book compared to a brand new pair of Wiss shears. In comparison, the number is 9.
My only real concern and why I cannot give them 5 stars is the handles are plastic, time will tell if they become problematic and I guess updates will follow, either way, and also whether or not the non cutting features are useful may keep them from getting a 5 star upgrade. Be sure to check back soon for further.

When it comes to scratchcocking a chicken, this is a must
5/5

If you do not have Messermeister Durable Locking Poultry Shears, 10-Pack The unit measures in inches and is made of stainless steel. Despite this, it can be difficult to cook a chicken with a spatchcock. Sometimes you can get away with a pair of kitchen scissors, but other times a poultry cutter is needed. There is nothing less than serious cutting action when it comes to the Messermeister Durable Locking Poultry Shears. As a result of its size and shape, backbones are very easy to remove with force. On the barbecue, a chicken must be spargecocked so that the meat is evenly cooked. This step permits chicken to be evenly cooked, tender, and juicy. A well-made shear from Portugal, the Messermeister Durable Locking Poultry Shears are well-built and easy to use.
