My expectations for these knives were far exceeded. No, they aren't without flaws. Isn't it true that they're worth a lot more than you paid for them? Some of the knives have a slight lip between the bolster and the handle, so the fit and finish isn't perfect. Some of the grinds were nearly flawless, while others were a little uneven. The four knives' sharpness ranged from usable to razor-sharp. I used a ceramic hone and a strop to touch up all of the edges, and they all tuned up beautifully with minimal effort, and now cut steak like butter. br>br>Additional Information: They came in a very giftable box with excellent packaging. I wouldn't be disappointed if I paid twice as much as I did. These are a steal at this price.
The first impression is excellent. The packaging is attractive and would make an excellent present. The knife handle is shinier in person than I expected, which I like because it gives it the appearance of a much more expensive knife. I sharpen my other kitchen knives with a sharpening stone, store them in butcher blocks, and only wash and dry them by hand. These knives should last for years if you keep this in mind. I recommend these to people who enjoy sharp knives and are familiar with how to care for them, but at this price (I paid $17. I don't think you'll find a better knife for the price (99 for a set of four).
Right out of the box, the handle was silky smooth. The material has swelled after the first wash, leaving the handle sharp and uncomfortable in the hand. This was a gift, so it's a huge letdown. If you want knives that will last through a gentle wash cycle, SAVE YOUR MONEY. Washing by hand is the only option if you don't have access to a dishwasher.
The high quality of these knives was a pleasant surprise. From the bottom of the handle to the top, the tang is a solid piece of metal. The edges are in excellent condition. After a month of use on a daily basis. The edges are as razor-sharp as they were when they were first installed. They cut through meat like butter, and serrated knives are no longer necessary. The quality of these knives has left me very impressed and satisfied. They are comparable to knives costing far more than $100. 00 for.
They're not sharp, and even after sharpening them on a knife grinder, I couldn't get them to cut through an apple. I believe the blades are simply too thick, making it difficult for them to slice through anything. If I had the opportunity, I would return these.
Sharp, easy to clean, and comfortable to use, but NOT DISHWASHER SAFE! I like these because I can easily sharpen them, wash them, and they fit comfortably in my hand; however, the inconvenience of having to hand wash them is a major drawback. I put one in the dishwasher, and the wooden handle dried out so badly that I had to oil it, and it still looks different from the rest of the set. In general, these are excellent knives.
Steak knives with a smooth edge and a razor sharp edge. Because I can easily hone the blades to restore sharpness and ensure decades of use, I prefer the smooth edge over serrated. br>br>Please keep in mind that it is made of high carbon steel, which will keep its edge for longer than stainless steel but is more prone to rusting and discoloration. So wash and dry them by hand; the box they came in is gift box quality, and the padding is made of high density foam, which is a good way to store and protect them in between uses. br>br>These high-quality knives are highly recommended.
I bought them ahead of time as gifts for family, so I can't vouch for their edge durability, which is why I only gave them four stars. The knives, on the other hand, arrived with razor-sharp edges and a balanced feel in the hand, with handles that are just the right size for comfortable use. A word of warning, though: To keep the condition and color of the handles, do not wash these knives in the dishwasher. In the end, you'll be able to give memorable gifts without breaking the bank.
