Questions & Answers

What country did this knife come from?

Made in Germany, this knife is made from stainless steel.

Can a 7-inch santoku knife be stored in a knife block with a two-inch slot? When it comes to the blade, how big is it?

The blade of my Zwilling/Henckels Santoku knife is seven and a half inches long There is a 5-/8" gap between the widest part of the cap and The 2" slot should be no problem for it.

What are the differences between this and Is the 5 inch Santoku the new standard? Do any of you have experience with either?

There is both a 7" and a 5", both of which I own. A 5 is. 5 things you need to know I find that 5" is a little small for me, and my hands hit the board when I am chopping. She uses it a lot since she has smaller hands and she finds it comfortable. The 8" chefs knife may be a little too big for you if you feel the 7" is better suited for

What kind of protective sheath comes with the knife?

It could have been accidentally thrown out if I forgot to retrieve it. Nevertheless, it is amazing knife. I was able to slice a tomato for the first time. My "first time" was nearly as good as my "second time". That's what I mean if you get what I mean

You will choose a Henckels Pro S or Wusthof Classic Ikon for your primary knife
4/5

I tested out both the 5 and 7 inch Pro S knives in person before I purchased the 7 inch. In comparison, my hands aren't large, but I as a result found the 5 inch Santoku to be cramped. The knife is versatile and can be used for just about everything you need to cut. There's no need to buy a set of knives you don't use. This knife, a paring knife, and a serrated knife are all you need. I would rather own a few good sharp knives than a plethora of mediocre ones. There is no better all-around knife than the Pro S Santoku sharp, sturdy, and easy to use It took me no time to become familiar with this knife once I had it. Since I recently purchased the Ikon Blackwood Santoku, I have been using a Henckels knife with daily use. The full disclosure is as follows Although I was very happy with the ProS and would never have invested the money to change models, my life circumstances changed and I left the ProS line behind when I separated from The last time I bought a knife, I tested it first. My preference for the feel of the Henckels knife makes me use it almost exclusively over any other knife. I outlined my reasons for doing so below The handles and blade ends (end of the blade at the point where it connects to the handle) of the two knives are different based on their designs. Due to the smaller bolster of the Wusthof Ikon knife I am able to cut longer with more surface area of the knife. At the end of the "butt" is Unlike the Pro S line, the Pro S line has a curved butt where you rest your pinky finger (supposedly to reduce It has a handle that curves gradually from the blade to the butt with no sharp curve at the butt that I prefer much more than any of the others. The wood handles feel good in my hands.

I like the feeling of a wood handle, but not every person will love it. As an option for those who prefer synthetic handles, Henckels is also available in an Ikon Classic model, which offers exactly the same knife as the wooden model (same blade, sharpness, shape, everything), however, with synthetic handles. In addition to polyoxymethylene (POM), which is also used to make Henckels Pro S knives, the POM material is strong, nonstick and feels good in the hand. These two brands differ in terms of how porous they are, as well as how well they hold up. Wusthof Ikon blades are cut at 14 degree angles compared to the 15 degree angles of Henckels (although the Henckels are a bit I would not hesitate to recommend either of these In the wrong hands, the ProS knife will tear into your skin or rip off your nails - the Wusthof Ikon will also do the same. It's been told to me! No matter how you slice it, the Santoku is a better choice than a chef's knife. * * * Although it says dishwasher-safe, I decided to give it a try anyway. For your safety, take note of the manufacturer's suggestion to wash your hands. It is possible for things to rub against the blade, thereby damaging it. As well, if the knife is not washed as soon as it comes home from the kitchen, any food that was left on it, especially acidic stuff, could You'll be able to extend the knife's life if you hand wash and dry it right after you use it. It is important that you regularly sharpen your knife, If you use your knife regularly, its blade will bend and it will become dull). It is recommended that knives be sharpened occasionally as well (removing steel material from the blade so it gains You should replace your air filter once a year or so if you use your home air filter often. In general, I do recommend this knife. If you can, go to a local retail store before making a purchase in order to feel the knife in your hand. I strongly recommend the Pro S knife - it's an excellent choice! During the years I owned it, it was my favorite knife.

Sorry to hear that

It is better in the classic version. I have upgraded my knives from the Classic to the Professional "S" I purchased 10 years ago and have been very happy with all of them except I prefer my classic because it is heavier and feels more comfortable in general. These pictures show that, contrary to their claims, the weight on this Professional "S" 8" Santoku sword IN FACT IS TWICE WHAT THEY NAME IT. There are 28 ounces or zero ounces. It is listed as 33 lbs on their website. It is really only 4 lbs. The weight of 9 oz pounds) and shows a noticeable improvement when compared to the Classic, which weighs 6 pounds. The weight is 7 oz A bit over 42 pounds). A second difference is the narrower width of the blade on the Professional "S". It is possible this is for design reasons, but in the end I do not recommend this knife. It may be better to save money and get the Classic instead. When I purchase items like this from Amazon I usually get a knockoff of the original, which can happen very easily.

This is a very good book, and I recommend it wholeheartedly
5/5

My husband and I both love this knife. I use it for veggies all the time. Meat is one of his favorite uses for it. In fact, I bought a father's day present for my dad because I liked it so much. It is also a favorite of his. The hollow blade is beloved for its ability to prevent food from sticking to it. Besides being crazy sharp, it's also pretty big. With this knife, you can make thin slices from vegetables or meat. I love the fact that it is German made. It is the country where so many high-quality knives and precision products are produced. While it may take some time getting used to, I think it is a plus that this knife does not cut with Though it was new to us, we quickly became accustomed to it. It is possible that I will purchase the shorter version as well. This is a very good book, and I recommend it wholeheartedly. The investment is definitely worth it.

A great knife
5/5

I know this cost more than I would like to spend on one, but I wanted a quality knife and I have one now. In fact I cut my finger a couple of times the first time I used the tool. There is no cure for it. So I chose a few good slicing knives to handle the food that I prep since I do not want to mess around with a food processor. Having researched the Henckels line, I decided to stick with it because I already had a Santoku and kitchen knife by Henckels, but after discovering that someone had placed knicks in my blade, I wanted another Santoku. I prefer the Santoku over the kitchen knife, just as a matter of personal preference (none of my boys have ever admitted it). The kitchen knife has a slight curve which makes chopping fine things like herbs easier for me. I do like the feeling of this one more, although the kitchen knife has a slightly curved blade which additionally allows me to rock it when chopping. In other words, I have a high quality green vegetable knife, as well as the old, knicked santoku and kitchen knives that are still sharp, which I use to cut meat and other things. My favorite way to cut is with a sharp knife. It feels You cannot go wrong with this purchase, and the knife will probably last you as long as you In addition, I bought a knife sharpener to keep my knives in great condition.

This is a great value for the money
4/5

Cooking from scratch, usually one dish affairs or something over rice, is a thing I do a lot. I have tried all kinds of kitchen gadgets, from electric processors to mandolin slicers, etc. But it can be difficult to get a perfect meal. A brand of Santoku knife proved to me that it was just as fast as any other. You will find it much easier to clean as well! In later years, I upgraded to a Santoku knife made in Iowa by a company that makes them, and it was a big improvement over the off-brand one Chinese bands import products from the U. S. I decided to take the plunge and buy In the case of vegetables (potatoes, beans, Onions), the Iowa one works okay, but it has a less enjoyable handle. For raw chicken breast, this one quite clearly is There is a possibility that the indentations help. It has a better handle that makes it easier to So I am happy to have it, but the Iowa-based company did not trump it by any means It costs about $7 to find one that's made to 100%. Although it is a nice knife, and I consider this to be the right tool for the job!.
