Questions & Answers

To cook in this "Ovenproof" bowl in the oven, what is the safest maximum temperature I can use?

My glass mixing bowl has only ever been used as a mixing bowl, but the Anchor Hocking website says that their bake ware can be used to a maximum temperature of

Can you tell me how wide the top is?

The size of a quarter is about 6 1/2 inches.

Can anyone tell me if this works ?

The item can be used in the oven as well as the microwave. Measurements can be read all the way along the glass in cups and milliliters. It has a very comfortable Big handle so you can grab it and hold it conveniently, which is key because it is a heavy bowl.

What do they look like? Do they boil water?

It's safe to boil water in the microwave using this, but I wouldn't use it for boiling

This product has sharp edges along the handle, which makes it uncomfortable to use
3/5

This bowl was so good that I really wanted to like it. I got this bowl for my wife for Christmas a few months ago since her previous bowl broke. She loves this type of container. After she opened it, she was happy and we went on to wash it and then make pancakes or something in the During the next time I used it, I noticed some very sharp edges, where the molten glass poured out between the molds while making it. She wasn't bothered, but I noticed some very sharp edges along the handle. As a result, they were trimmed off somewhat and filed down so that they wouldn't cut your hand easily, but they are sharp and uncomfortable and, after using them for more than a few minutes, it does make my hand swell up and become numb. It seems tempting to sand it down with my Dremel, but I haven't wanted to compromise the integrity of the bowl by doing so. However, I still may do so- On the edge of being annoying enough to warrant action, it borders on being annoying enough that action is required.

MEASUREMENT CUP EXPLOSION AND ANCHOR HOCKING
3/5

A DANGEROUS situation. The bowl exploded and shattered while it sat in the dish drainer by itself. Since the day before, the system had not been used. Reviewers gave these reviews a poor rating. I found Pyrex that needs to be replaced. There are a lot of reports of Anchor products shattering without cause. Taking it off the market would be a good idea.

On this bowl, the parting lines are partially visible The feeling is painful and sharp
3/5

Totes like this are only meant to transport microwaved hot water from my kitchen to the bathroom to use for shaving gear, and have a sharp parting line on the underside of the top handle that makes them uncomfortable to carry. My Dremel tool with a drum attached made quick work of smoothing this area out, so I'm being very generous with my praise, but methinks more quality control is needed. A UPDATED RELEASE Liquids do not flow smoothly through it. I'm not sure how it will work with water, but not batter. It seems like I always spill water on the counter, no matter how careful I am. In the near future, it's likely to be a Goodwill gift. It works just fine with water in my Pyrex.

The Anchor Hocking quality is not up to par
3/5

am unsure of what to say about this batter bowl though I know it is not of Anchor Hocking quality. It is amazing how many pieces I own from Anchor, Pyrex, Libbey, etc. , but I have never bought something so poorly manufactured. There are scratches and a lot of mars on the bowl. There is a very sharp weld/ seam on the bowl glass. At some points of the lip around the top of the bowl, it feels scratchy. It seems like a counterfeit, based on my gut feeling.

There are inaccuracies in the measurements
3/5

This is what I've been using to make Hummingbird food, and I need to use a ratio of 2 cups of sugar to 1 cup of water. The measurements were off when I checked them with an accurate measuring cup. When you have 7 cups of water, you are almost at 8 cups. Another problem I have is that it's nearly impossible to pour liquid out of the batter bowl without spilling. A sticky mess like this would not be a problem if it were just water, but sugar syrup is sticky. However, I wish I didn't have to deal with these problems, since I needed something large with a handle.

The measuring cup / bowl I have is great
5/5

I was devastated when my old one broke after over 10 years of heavy use after getting hit by a dropped dish. The knife I use most often in my kitchen comes from this type of knife. So many things can be done with this size. In addition to cooking rice, storing leftovers, mixing batter, making sauces, blending drinks, and making iced tea with it, I also microwave large amounts of liquid for soups/stews, make iced tea, and mix batter. The product is sturdy, clearly marked with numbers that won't wear off, and won't stain or react with food in any way. A $2 bargain at a yardsale originally, it was the best $2 I ever spent, and I was relieved to learn it existed when my first one broke.

When it comes to mixing batters and eggs, there is no better machine
5/5

It is much easier and cleaner to mix everything in one of these bowls than you would with a whisk. With a deep roughly parabolic shape, the ingredients are kept in the bowl and near the work area. This pitcher has a handle that makes it easy to hold steady as you manage to pour, along with a wide spout that makes it easy to pour out once you've finished. Among them are pancake batter, scrambled eggs, beaten egg whites, whipped cream, feeding the sourdough starter, cake batter, custard pie fillings, salad dressings, and uncooked sauces. Whenever I need to melt butter or heat up liquids, this is the bowl I reach for first.

They're microwave safe. As they can be put in the dishwasher, cleaning them is easy. As with any glassware, if you drop them or hit them with something, they will break or chip, which will force you to scramble to get a replacement right away.

The quality control is poor
3/5

Several years ago, I was given one of these as a gift. I decided to replace it with this one. I just wanted the same thing, so it's perfect for me. The rim chipped, but it's the right size. Although there was no difference in size, the quality must have been lower. There is a slight gap in the glass on the handle. When I pick up the book, there is a little ridge that digs into my hand. When I first heard about it I thought it was nothing to worry about. It's now a real eye opener that I should have contacted the seller immediately since it is really irritating and bordering on painful. Quality control is definitely not good.
