That is, after all, the issue with a large area. I didn't need the extender/support rod section, and I didn't need the support pieces because the rod is very sturdy, the curtains aren't very heavy, and the rod was perfect for my needs. You could put a support piece in the center and pull the curtain sections close together in the middle, splitting them and sliding half to each side when opening if you can draw the curtains to both sides. I hope this has been of assistance.
The total size of the brackets is four, as shown in the last image. 1/4 inch
It's not just the curtain brackets and screws that need to be replaced.

The gold finish is stunning, and the piece is extremely durable. The mounting hardware that came with the kit was also very sturdy, making installation a breeze. I ordered one at first, then two more after they were installed. This quality comes at a great price.
The curtain rods are far superior to what I had anticipated. They are 1" in diameter and made of sturdy metal, so they easily hold my fairly heavy velvet curtains in place without bending the rod. I didn't use the rods' hardware, but it's standard curtain rod hardware. The only flaw I found is that the brackets are missing a small screw that holds the rods in place so they don't slip when you open and close the curtains. Because the metal appears to be a little thick to drill your own hole, I recommend using small black rubber bands to keep the rods from slipping on either side of the bracket. The acrylic finials are in excellent condition, with no scratches or chips, and they are extremely attractive.
I would have given this 5 stars if the glass end hadn't been badly scratched. The color and style were identical to what was shown. It was simple to put together and didn't contain any of those annoying styrofoam inserts. I don't want to uninstall and then have to reinstall everything, so I'll just deal with it. I really like how it looks in my room.
So far, I've bought three. In my modern farmhouse style home, I adore the matte gold. It's a nice dark matte gold, rather than the yellow gold of some other products. My dining room has a large window with a lot of weight on the curtain rod from velvet drapes, but it doesn't sag at all. For the rest of my (new) home, this will be my go-to curtain rod.
It looks fantastic in my living room and is of excellent quality.
I have an 8-foot ceiling, and this rod appears clumsy (not the product's fault, just something to consider if you have an 8-foot ceiling). I regret not choosing a diameter of less than an inch. It is, however, a lovely rod. The glass finials are magnificently heavy and clear. The whole thing is very sturdy, but make sure you use drywall screws or drill into a stud. I've hung curtains directly into drywall on numerous occasions. With this rod, it isn't a possibility.
Jan 2020 I just placed an order for my seventh rod for the sunroom entry, which will be used to drape a silver scarf. Amazing looks goodbr>br>7/19br>br>Gorgeous in my new Condo with faux silk Gray curtains from Amazon as well. br>br> Every window is full of them.
This is the highest-quality curtain rod I've ever used, and it outperforms anything I've seen or tried at the big-box stores. The rod is sturdy and thick, and it is very easy to install. The round acrylic balls clung to the ends with a tight fit. The rods are easy to adjust to the correct length and fit snugly into the wall hooks. In my house, these will last a long time!.
