I believe it will eventually rust since it is metal. The paint is painted, but since it is metal, I think it will eventually rust. There might be a better solution for what you want if it's more platonic.
A hockey stick is not something I have ever owned. I keep golf umbrellas in this rack stand. If your hockey stick is longer than a golf umbrella, you have to give up the try.
The chances are good that you will be able to do so. Currently, the stand is full of seven umbrellas.

Light sabers and weapon collections are well organized in this case. It was purchased for my son. A lot of material can be stored in it I have so far used a foam sword, foam axe, cat noir pole, and six lightsabers with plenty of room left over. Stylish and stable, you don't have to worry about it tipping Update
Since the stand has been with us for a year, it has done a marvelous job of withstanding the wrath of an active toddler. As he sat on it, he turned it on its side. After he stuffed it to capacity with toys and toys that look like weapons, the lid became dented. Just pressing from the inside made it pop back into place again. But it doesn't tip on its own, which is excellent since it is now filled to capacity. This is very helpful for anyone in the market for an umbrella stand, whether you intend to use it for its intended use or for other purposes such as ours.
It falls over if you put a cane of a normal size inside. There is far too much light in the room. I think it would work well if the lid is always half full and there are never only 1 or 2 items in the container. There is nothing particularly special about this. It is just a garbage can that is in a bad state.
It is used by me for my canes, as I needed to weigh it down to keep it from tipping over I was able to do well with 2 lb dumbells.
Though I don't remember what I expected since the umbrella stand was rather inexpensive, it was well packaged and in great condition when I received it. We have a couple of tall umbrellas that we can use this with, but the compact umbrellas have always been annoying There were some things I bought - The 3 umbrellas are now hung from the hooks on the outside of the stand. I have to space them correctly to balance the stand as it is very light and tips over if weight is not evenly distributed. Despite that, it works well and is a fairly good deal.
The bin works well to store wrapping paper. It's a good bargain for the quality and design of the bin.
I would never close an umbrella to dry in this stand and I would never do that. I recommend that the canopy be lowered and it be opened. Your porch is a good place to dry if you are superstitious. There is a good reason why you don't open umbrellas in the house you will knock over things, you will break nice ceramics, etc. Although this Stan is nice, you may need to keep an eye on it if you add the Walkingstick or other items to it. A weight at the bottom would be helpful, as someone else mentioned. There is a weight that you can spray paint to match, and the weight looks nice.
In reality, the umbrella holder isn't actually serving the purpose it is stated to serve. The item was actually for a disabled person on whose behalf I had purchased a five-piece hip replacement gadget set from RMS. My immediate concern was what good would all those gadgets do if the person tripped over one of them and lost a leg or In spite of the fact that many umbrella stands were too fancy (and much more costly) than this one, I decided to give it a go, considering the solely utilitarian reason for its purchase. If we were to use it that way, all the gadgets would fit comfortably and there would still be room for several umbrellas.
Because it is very light, it won't do well on windy or uneven floors unless you load it with a lot of weight. As far as the product itself is concerned, it looks great and the metal mesh doesn't bend too I did not find any sharp edges on the twi I purchased. The only thing I wish it had is.
